The Ironside Express and the Iron Knight

Something a little different today: I'm putting up early access stuff from two separate projects, the two biggies I currently have got underway.

The Ironside Express is the novel I'm currently working on: a horror-fantasy-western mashup. Today's update contains the first two chapters, which I hope will be enough to let you decide if it's something you're interested in seeing more of...

Necromancy Patron Preview #6

Wednesday has come once again and with it, a new playbook preview.

The Monster Hunter doesn't have the great and terrible hand of death protecting them. There's nothing special about them at all, really, except that they're willing to march off into the hungry teeth of the endless night and try to break off a few. Maybe make arrowheads out of them, so everyone else can scrape ou...

Necromancy Patron Preview #5

Happy Wednesday, everyone! This week we're going to preview two new monsters exclusive to the Plain of Ashes campaign/biome.

The Scablin is a horribly vital gobbet of cast-off flesh, and is the first previewed monster designed to be fought in small packs rather than as a solo "boss fight" encounter.

The Troll is described in my design notes a...

Necromancy Patron Preview #4

Wednesday is here, and so is another preview. For today's update, we've got an entire chapter: How to Play the Game, including a rundown of how structured play works, the playbooks, advances, and how the game ends.

As a note, the Discord is still up and running (and fairly active) and if you can read this, you are welcome to join.

Necromancy patron preview #3

Happy Wednesday!

Spent a bit thinking about whether to demo one of the playbooks today, or one of the game's monsters. In the end, I decided to go with both, so it's double-update day.

The Death Knight is the premiere heavy hitter among Necromancy's playbooks, a powerful front-line slugger with high all-or-nothing damage and pretty high survival potential....

Gamedev thoughts: Necromancy and traits

Hello folks! Here's a weekend bonus post.
--
Everyone's creative method is a little bit different. Mine is heavily trial-and-error based: Usually I start by writing what I know, and then looking at the design and seeing what's wrong with that.

One of the more important skills to develop in game design is "listening to the design." If you're designing RPGs, it is probably because you yourse...

Necromancy Patreon preview #2

As was foretold in the ancient prophecies, here's another update with the Necromancy core rules. As with all things Necromancy, they're still a work in progress and may see changes and updates before the game's finalized, but the stuff in the preview is, for the most part, pretty solidly developed right now.

I'd also like to take a second to talk about futu...

Necromancy Patreon preview #1

Here's the first bit of Necromancy material for patrons: the introduction and Chapter One, covering the game's premise and setting.

If you'd like to provide feedback, there are of course the comments on this post, but I'm also available on the patreon's Discord channel for more direct interaction.

The next update, which should follow shortly, will cover core systems. ...

Small update

Changing internet service providers from Comcast (pure evil) to AT&T (also pure evil but new to the area and thus very competitively priced for now) today, so will be netless for most of the day. If everything goes smoothly, will get first Necromancy materials up tonight once the net is back.
