Behind the Scenes - Steampunk Festival

While shooting in a German rail lounge car makes a nice backdrop and it is larger than you would think once you add lights with large softbox its very hard to get the light where you want them without encroaching on your frame especially if you want to get a wider environment shot.

Before|After - Phantom of the Opera

Back at OCC 2015 I spent most of the con shooting in public places like the entry hall or a little corner on the con floor. It all came down to the lighting and making sure that the background was blown out to black.  I had grabbed Emily and Charlie out of the entry queue for this shot so there were people everywhere. The before shot has been overexposed to show the background environment.

A beautiful failure

I really like this photo but the brief was to shoot the dogs on an infinite white background and by the end of the shoot with the speedlite batteries draining pretty fast I was getting 2-3 miss firing shots to every correct shot. This is when I needed burst mode the most as getting all 5 to stay still was a task. 

BREAKDOWN 004 - Guide Puppies

Having seen my work with the RSPCA I was asked to photograph Guide Dog puppies for the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB). They do before and after photos of the dogs so this was a new litter before they started their training.

One of the major downsides to my lighting style is I like to have the lights close, so much so that they appear in almost every image and need to be removed image I need to remove. Close up shots aren't so bad but wide shots, group shots of large cosplays can prove to be a headache.

As you can see in the original shot below there is a lot of extra information that needs removing, lights, stands,...
