2019-07-05 15:38:57 +0000 UTC View PostHere’s a little piece to commemorate the closing of MAD Magazine. I haven’t read an issue since the 80s, but MAD was a huge inspiration growing up. The incredibly wacky Don Martin strips, the detailed caricature of Mort Drucker, trying not to destroy the back cover to reveal the secrets of Al Jaffee’s fold-ins are still vivid memories to this day. But of course many people’s all-time fa...

2019-07-02 04:05:25 +0000 UTC View PostI don’t normally give in to demands, but I have to say I was intrigued by this comment on the Pear-shaped Rosemary from a few days back. It doesn’t say an apple-shaped one, but rather the apple-shaped one. Like I’m gonna read that and think, “oh that old classic.” Here’s what I guess I think that means. See how I subverted expectations by ...
2019-07-01 08:33:12 +0000 UTC View PostHere's a nice scanned version of an alternate follow-up to the Knight ending of Angela's Magic Lesson. In this timeline, Angela does not find herself in a high-fantasy version of Underborough. Instead, she knights Winifred for some reason and instantly regrets it.
I'll have a color version when I have time, but for now I really wanted to play with the halftone brushes I just downloaded. 2019-06-30 14:33:32 +0000 UTC View Post
Yuki-onna TF for an upcoming Magic Lesson. I'm really happy with how the pattern on the kimono came out. Not too much trickery, I just did a gradient for the background color, did a 50% white along the hexagonal lines, then picked one solid light color for the snowflakes so they'd show up differently along the gradient.
2019-06-29 12:22:11 +0000 UTC View PostA couple years ago, I scrawled out a quick sketch of Angela as a yuki-onna. It was a sort of consolation prize because I couldn’t find a way to fit this particular transformation into the Magic Lessons. Fast forward to right now, when nature found a way. Anyone who remembers that post may recall the snowflake pattern on Angela’s kimono. I’ll be adding those in photoshop.

2019-06-24 16:09:04 +0000 UTC View PostI’ve been playing a bunch of Trials of Mana, aka Seiken Densetsu 3, aka Secret of Mana 2. I know there’s other stuff I should be doing, but this is a sequel I’ve been waiting to play for 24 years. Anyway, this is ToM’s Angela. She’s a princess and a caster, and if you want healing spells you’re just going to have to ask someone else.
2019-06-23 16:31:00 +0000 UTC View PostBel enlists Angela’s aid in getting into a club. She just needs to be a little bit older, and if something minor has to be exchanged to make that happen, so be it.

2019-06-20 14:52:22 +0000 UTC View PostA rare mail order of such magnitude (issues 1-18 & TPB4) calls for a double helping of bonus sketches! Both are ink and pencil on 6”x9” Bristol board, if anyone’s curious.
2019-06-19 16:47:22 +0000 UTC View PostShrine Maiden Angela successfully drove an evil spirit away! Was it supposed to be there? Doesn’t matter; it’s driven, period. Angela’s goofy pose from the sketch translated well, I think. Now it’s a much more detailed goofy pose.

2019-06-17 12:20:34 +0000 UTC View PostNot too different from yesterday's post, but this is a good example of process. Compare with yesterday's to see the difference line weight makes! Also, I penciled some patterns on Geisha Angela's kimono and fan so I wouldn't have to draw them in Photoshop. I don't get the same sense of scale when I try adding details (other than color/shading) digitally.
2019-06-15 15:57:30 +0000 UTC View PostI just want you all to know that I entered “Magic Lesson” into Google Translate to get this title. Anyway, here’s the initial inks of the Shrine Maiden and Geisha Angelas.

2019-06-13 14:19:30 +0000 UTC View PostLook, I’m not proud of that title either, but the pun was right there. And I mean, Audrey is the closest thing to real life bimbofication we may ever see in our lifetime. Seriously, look up pics from past Nintendo E3 coverage... okay, I feel creepy. No more real people.

I admit nostalgia is one of them. I beat the game on a family beach vacation back in 1993, so the setting was perfect. Its history is pretty fascinating too. It was initially developed after hours in secret, so it’s got that whole labor of love q...
