When I sent Erin a draft story last week she remarked that it was "a lot like many of your stories but very well done".  I have to say that those words worried me as I always strive for points of difference, so I took this old idea of hers and turned it on its head a bit.

The Chancellor's Daughter

As people will know, Erin bombards me with a ideas and this was just a short one about a kid who finds the courage to pursue a vendetta against the man who killed his family, and needs to get close to the killer to do it.  I have a added a twist, I think.

Inspired by Always Fem No. 2

I like these captioned images by Always Fem because the images are great and the captions are short and pithy.  The words give me just enough to be a seed without cramping my creativity, and I think some good stories have popped out of these five.  As always I remain open to drawing longer stories out of these little writing exercises, but I do ask for feedback before I do that.

This one was suggested by one of my editors, Eric, and is a trope I guess - guy joins sorority.  I departed from the original idea a little and added a fun ending.

Just a Suggestion

This comes from a short seed by Erin based on the old "coming back from the Hypnotist Show" trope.  I confess that in my fairly strict adherence to reality I have generally avoided hypnosis which has never been effective in achieving personality change, let alone orientation or dysphoria.  After all, as practitioners will confirm, hypnosis is just a suggestion. 

Family Counselling

The prompt was "What were you thinking about?"  It is a good question.  I had Erin's seed but I took it somewhere else.  I suppose that my need for reality always makes me question the whole hypnosis thing.  This seems a little more credible, but what about the next one.

Yes, another of those western novella inspired stories from a seed by Erin.  After the success of my Amazon book "Misfortune and other Romances of the Old West" Erin is pushing me for another collection in this vein, and no doubt this story would be in there.  But I would need a whole bunch more, so I am fishing for ideas......

Captioned images by Knights are generally far too long for me to work with.  I prefer very short captions with the hint of a story that I can develop, but I have worked at least 10 caps by Knight as this is the second set of five, led by one of my all time favorites "Forensic Accountant".

A Little Maturity

I wrote "Underage" some time ago.  It was a story based on fact where a very youthful looking young man dressed in his sister's clothes to get into an adult rated movie, and later went on to do much more.  I was not sure how but I felt this needed something more.

The Purity of Judgment

This was the last story from 2021.  It came from the title which turned into another story with a very different track and a new title, but I just felt that I needed to tell a story around dating apps, and this is the one that came out.

Inspired by Tiffany Etc. No. 16 (Tina)

Other bunch of captions by Tiffany in her Tina phase that simply compelled me to pull on those threads that she always leaves hanging and fashion something just a little more detailed.  There are classic tropes here - the hypnosis, the secretary fantasy and a womanless pageant - but as somebody has commented on Fictionmania recently, tropes are fine if well developed.

Witches and Demons

Erin is always suggesting things that delve into the supernatural, but I refuse to go there.  The best TG fantasy is one that just might come true - right?  The idea that there might be a band of nerds out there that believe in this BS and try to understand it seemed worth exploring, but then there are other bands of nerds with other ideas.

Cover Story

Who does not love the fashion of the fifties?  Women broke out of the uniforms and work overalls of WW2 to adopt hyper-feminine fashions and hairstyles.  Erin suggested a story for an upcoming collection set in older times where a crossdresser seeks to work for one of those new government agencies.  The images are of a true fan of the fashions of this era.

Surrogate

I am quite pleased with this one, although I am not sure where it came from.  I think that a good short story should draw the characters from the narrative, and I hope that all three involved here are clearly understood by their attitudes and actions and some dialog.  Feedback please, dear readers.

Long Shot Wedding

I was chatting with Erin about proxy marriages (her seed is in the footnote as is the law in Texas) and this yarn just spun itself out.

Sticky Wicket

I am writing a collection for another anthology on Amazon themed as sports and games, and casting around for something new somebody suggested the world's second most popular game (after soccer) and that is cricket.  It is surprisingly popular in the USA too, but the majority of players at a high level seem to be Indians.  That led to this story.

A Woman's Work

I think Erin may have said something about a very lazy guy saying "women's work is easy" or something like that.  That is where the title comes from.  I am not sure that it fits any longer as the story sort of drifted into art .  Damn!  I have only recently published a collection on Amazon based on these themes and this story would have belonged there.

The Candidate

How did this story happen?  I cannot remember.  I found the Politico item when I was already largely completed.  I suppose that I was thinking about politics and hypocrisy and how there are people out there who will do anything to get elected.  What do you think?
