Unchartered Waters

Unchartered Waters

Today I was thrown into the deep end of the pool. It was a tough day and what happens next is uncertain.

It has been a day that reminded me just how easily things can get out of control.

Today was also the day I made a decision. I decided I will not let recent events take the best of me.

I knew this journey would never be one without challenges. But the road ...

We were rammed by a 60ft Catamaran!

Apologies in advance for the strong language guys! 😰

We are currently anchored near the airport of Aruba. It's been a quiet morning and we were about to scoot over to Oranjestad.

But all that changed in the blink of an eye!

Just after noon, a huge 60-foot catamaran entered the lagoon searching for a spot to drop anchor. We watched them as they maneuvered past CUBA and we wa...

Exploring Aruba's Hidden Spots

Exploring Aruba's Hidden Spots

Aruba is a tiny and very popular island. That makes it extremely difficult to find a quiet spot to - well - let your hair down!

Yet, with our little dinghy Viva, we are able to get to those hard-to-reach places, far away from all the hustle and bustle.

It was still an adventure to get there since we had to battle against some strong winds.

I have to say though, the bumpy...

More than we bargained for πŸ˜…

Hey lovely peeps!
It is done! We are finally here! Only 3 days later than we had planned. πŸ₯΄
But Aruba did not let us finalize this passage just that easily.

Here it is mandatory to dock at the customs office, for clearance into the island. The office is located in a very difficult spot. Only 25 meters from the pontoon lies a shallow of only 1.5 meter and usually the winds are ...

We are almost there πŸ™‚

Hey peeps, we are just 13 Miles away. To our port side we can see the lights of Venezuela πŸ‡»πŸ‡ͺ and ahead the light house of the southern tip of Aruba πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ό. We are not allowed to anchor before checking, so we have to slow down to 1.5 knots until morning.

Mucho love 😍

We are completely becalmed passing the Island of CuraΓ§ao πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ό

Guys what a passage, from thunderstorms to no wind to 52 knots. Another 54 miles to go but no wind. We can hear the local radio of some Caribbean mix with Dutch music, so cute. πŸ₯°πŸ’™πŸ§‘ sending lots of love. Xxx

Last sunset on the West Indies

Hey guys,

We will be leaving really early in the morning. The wind conditions will be extremely fair due to hurricane Phillipe passing further north.

By calculation, we should arrive within 4-5 days and the passage is just over 500NM.

As soon as we arrive we will let you know and we will also get the next episode rolling. πŸ™‚

We are sending all of you lotsa love! π...

Splish Splash 🌊😊

To take a dip in these warm Caribbean waters has been and will always be something I immensely enjoy!

In Germany - where I grew up - summers are very hot and very short and I used to count the days for the temperatures to rise. Yet, even on the hottest of days, taking a plunge into a lake or the North Sea would still take quite an effort.

In this part of the world the wa...

Loving the unexpected

Loving the unexpected

I love discovering a picture location like this where the coastline and sea create a unique canvas of light, shades and shapes.

Recently, we travelled to the very south of Grenada in hopes to find interesting spots to take some nice photos but unfortunately this area does not have what we were looking for.

So, this morning we picked up the hook, ansd started moving up the co...

Our itinerary for the 27th

Hey guys we are getting ready to leave on the 27th to Aruba, we are gonna point up 150 NM away from the coast of Venezuela πŸ‡»πŸ‡ͺ due to piracy, which is gonna put another extra 24 hours on the passage. Is just over 503 Nautical Miles, you might not see us on AIS as we are planning to turn it off for safety. We might turn it up for few mins from time to time if possible. Wish us luck 🧑πŸ§...

With love from a deserted anchorage 🧑

With love from a deserted anchorage 🧑

I am sending you this postcard from a small uninhabited island.

There are no other boats anchored here and even though we found are some ruins near the beach, they have been abandoned a long long time ago.

It is my favourite kind of anchorage - as I cannot imagine anything more relaxing than being surrounded by nothing but the sounds of nature...  πŸ₯°β›΅πŸ’™

Moment of the Truth!

Moment of the Truth!

Hey guys,

We spent another few days with our heads buried in the engine, hoping to finally emerge with some good news.

It's been 3 weeks of getting up in the morning and taking the engine apart, going non-stop till 2-3am just trying to figure things out. 🀯🀯 Going to bed with more worries and more confused.

By now there aren't really any more reasons left why it keep...

WHICH WIRE IS IT? 😨 Raw, Unfiltered BOAT LIFE (E.81) Sailing SV CUBA

Why does everything on a sailboat have to be so complicated? I guess that's just part of this lifestyle. The Sailing is easy, but the rest that comes with boat life is the most difficult part of all.

Cooling off in a tidal pool πŸ˜‹

It's been a super busy week and most of it was spent with my head in the engine room. πŸ₯΅

So relaxing in this small, shallow tidal pool on a deserted island before sunset was just the perfect way to cool off! πŸ€—

I gotta say though, getting to this spot wasn't all too easy since the Atlantic swells reach around the small isle and there was no beach to land the dinghy. 🌊

REAL LIFE Aboard Our 46ft SAILBOAT (She is not Just a Cool Skipper but Mechanic) β›΅ Sailing SV CUBA EP80

This is my simple boat life on the ocean: After some amazing free diving, it is time to tackle some essential boat work.

Sailing around the world and living on a sailboat has a lot of perks but it also requires work and determination.

Unfortunately, we have to abandon our perfect anchorage near an uninhabited island and sail back to civilization to fix our broken engine. Will we suc...

Wild Caribbean

Wild Caribbean

In my mind, the Caribbean is always calm somehow... white beaches and tranquil water.

But there are many coastlines that are wild and exposed to the relentless bashing of the waves.

I actually prefer those! - it is just a little more difficult to get there. 😁

Today I couldn't make up my mind about which picture I'd prefer to post, so I just uploaded b...

Hey lovely people!

We waited for a tropical wave - a weather system that brings lots of rain and thunderstorms - to pass so we can venture to a nice spot to take this week's picture.
Weather is finally improving so keep your eyes peeled as this week's post is coming soon. 😊

Lotsa love

When it gets hot below deck...

When it gets hot below deck...

I have been dreaming of living in a tropical climate for as long as I can remember.

Being woken up by the sun peeking through the portlight and just jumping out of bed to enjoy a morning coffee without being wrapped up in socks, blankets and such in the cocktip, to me, feels like the perfect start to the day.

Yet there can be days when the temperatures just keep on climb...
