To reiterate, Ascension takes place after Twilight went to Ponyville, offering up 1-2 horse years of time to play with.

Lemon Balm Tea. It was originally Lemongrass Tea, but it's toxic to horses, so I changed it. It's a kind of mint.

An early version of the script I got for Ascension was where Shining Armor was only recently made captain, evidence of which remains in the third panel. But a rewrite made Shining Armor captain for a while now. I don't really have a reason for that.

Ascension: Page Three

Initially, the "Here We Are" circle wasn't there, so this was three panels. I couldn't have that. I've learned a thing or two with comic strip making and I thought doing this kept the flow interesting.

I tend to spread out the conversation over several  panels, instead of having it as a lone talking head. Not sure whether that's good or not.

And now, an explanation. Working over ship names, I came to Spitfire... and figured between Twinkle Shine and Shining Armor. Guess which one was funnier?

Fun Fact: The script changes were almost immediate once I started on page two. Initally I had Shining Armor as if he has never met Princess Celestia in-pony before, but I figured that to be impossible.

Raven Inkwell was the obvious choice for assistant as she has canonically appeared alongside Celestia. Plus, she's cute.

Also apparent here is the use of defined colours for whoever's speech...

I put it off for a good amount of time, mainly because I didn't want to have it weigh me down and prevent me from doing regular pony art. But since that bout of busywork last year, I found...
