Hey guys,
I hope you're all having a great weekend so far.
So this week's Patreon Vlog is now available to watch and the main topic of discussion is unsurprisingly how the Coronavirus has affected Japan so far, given I know quite a few of you have trips to Japan booked so far and have been anxiously keeping an eye on the apocalyptic news.

Hey guys,
I hope you're all having a great week so far and you enjoyed our recent outing to the Haunted Inn in the latest video. (Although to be fair, the real horror was surely Ryotaro's face).
Unsurprisingly, given the terrifyingly apocalyptic headlines about the C...

Hey guys,
So the first of this week’s 3 videos is now out; What Teaching English in Japan was REALLY Like.
I apologise for the unforgivable clickbait style capitalisation of “REALLY”. I hate doing these sort of titles - I die a little bit inside every time - but unfortunately it does tend to work and get viewers clicking and watching.
And h...

So I’ve just arrived back from an intense Sapporo Snow Festival - I was glad to see many of you were able to make our impromptu live show in the slip-and-slide nightmare that was an icy Odori Park. It was my first live show out and about in public and it was pretty damn intense, but undeniably fun, particularly as we had Natsuki, Pete, Sharla and Chiaki thrown into the mix.

Hey guys,
VERY quickly, we're planning a live show from the Sapporo Snow Festival tonight.
It could go well - it could be a disaster.
Either way, there's some great people and it'd be a shame not to take advantage of that!

Hey guys!
So today I come before you with two videos and some exciting news.
The first video is the Patreon vlog above where I examine my recently uncovered JET Application - which I wrote when applying to work in Japan all those years ago - with some surprising findings. I also discuss the upcoming trip to the Sapporo snow festival, where we'll be joined by Natsuki, Pete, Sha...

Hey guys!
So I'm back in Japan and ready to go - I've got the jet lag out the way and a smile on my face (only one of those two things are true).
And I'm looking forward to the first Patreon live hangout of this year, Jan 31st at 7:30am Japan time - a brand new time that hopefully means more of you can join.
One of the benefits of b...

I realised the other day, so much of the luck or success I’ve had over the last few years can be attributed to me saying “Yes” to things I was initially reluctant to do.
The expression, “You make your own luck” is often trumpeted by smug billionaires the world over as underpinning their success - but I have to say, it’s a remark that has some degree of truth t...

Hey guys,
I hope your 2020 is off to a great start so far!
(Also, 10 points to Gryffindor if you can work out what we're holding in the above thumbnail).
January is one of my favourite months; it’s a time of reflection and planning - which is easily done when it’s too f*cking cold to go outside. So what am I doing, what’s coming up in the next 3-4 weeks an...

I fully intend to show off my gifts on this year's last Patreon live show.
This month's Ask Abroad is on Sunday 29th at 4pm UK time - because I'm currently in the UK it's at a slightly different time than usual, so my apologies to those in Asia/Aus...

About 7 years ago on this very day, there’s a good chance I was sitting in my cramped bath tub watching anime, desperately trying to improve my Japanese listening skills in the hours after I got home from teaching English at a school in rural Japan.
I would sit in the boiling water in an attempt to stay warm on the cold winter evenings, given that my poorly insulated ap...

Hey folks- Hope you've all had a great week so far!
I'm pleased to announce this month's live show on Sat 30th November at 22:00 JST.

So, recently I’ve been feeling slightly empty.
I feel like the captain of a pirate ship, and the ship is loaded with enough barrels of wine and enough tins of spam to sail wherever I want upon the high seas. Hell, the ship is even staffed with an enthusiastic team of the finest shipmates a captain could hope for. (Aka. regular Abroad in Japan viewers).

So initially last month's live Patreon Hangout with Natsuki didn't go according to plan, when we pulled the webcam out midway and had to reboot the show! First off, thanks to everyone who reached out to myself and the team asking if we're all ok. Natsuki, Ryotaro and I are all doing well and have been relatively unaffected by the events of today. And by events, I mean the smorgasbord of natural disasters that Japan has endured in the last 24 hours.

You’d think I’d have learned my lesson after Journey Across Japan, to just go back to making simple videos in my living room, sitting on a sofa and speaking with a sarcastic, moderately agitated demeanour.
