I've come to a conclusion of sorts that with a more organic background that I'm kind of leaning back on lines since it'll tend to need more of a painting style approach when colors happen as opposed to a rigid-layered method.

I notice the messier the choice of line style for sketches, it usually means the harder it was to nail down the general composition 'til I was pleased, haha. I tend to default to more of an oil brush vs a pencil style (there's like 4 or 5 brushes I kind of cycle through when it comes to sketches as opposed to a pretty defined 1 in lines) ...
