Spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to paint this dude. I should have tried some sketch on photoshop or InfinitePainter(free app for android, maybe also for IOS) to save a lot of time, this took me less than half an hour.
I think Ii'm gonna paint a backdrop for this guy(left) but it should work also with a greyish background(right).
Also by today get ready for a beastman...
Hard vs Soft/ Shadows
Two ways of taking reference photos for your miniatures.
The principle is easy, the bigger the light source, the softer the shadows.
On the left picture I have used a bulb lamp and obtained soft edges on the shadows.
On the right one I have used a phone torch(flAsh light), and obtained sharp shadows as you can see under the shoulder pad and on the cast shadow from the axe.

Inspiration
Painted this face, trying to take inspiration from one of the latest Portraits of Gericault. It wasn't easy, I have to get better at painting faces.
