Time lapse video, No voice over

I did a few time lapse videos from the Model Pack I offered earlier in the month. Thank you Ashley for your good work on those.

I generally like 30 seconds to 5 minutes for gesture drawings.  The second half of the video is a longer drawing, closer to 30 minutes.

I think the most important thing to remember when doing...

Video Tutorial: Oiling Out- Aug. 2019

Video Tutorial: Oiling Out- Aug. 2019

A little information on the traditional technique of returning gloss to a dry painting.  I didn’t mention this specifically in the video but you want your medium to contain the least amount of oil and yet still work. Just meaning the flat parts of the painting don’t turn completely back to matte when it dries, the areas will retain some degree of shine (gloss).

Completion: An Oil painting Sketch inside Moleskin sketchpad

I like to idea of painting in a sketchpad, I think it takes the focus and pressure away from the idea that we always have to complete a painting to something more just like keeping a journal, you don’t even have to show it to anyone, it’s all for you and therefore hopefully gives you the freedom to push your...

If you want to try just a tiny bit of color in your drawings give it a...

Here’s a little video about my basic approach to hands- May. 2019

Here’s a little video about my basic approach to hands- May. 2019

Always start with the overall shape, then break that down into smaller parts. Understanding hands comes down to three basic aspects. Understanding the structure (this is the most important), direct observation and gesture. Simple right? I wish, but if you spend some time studying hands they will loose there mystery and your frustration will turn into success.
