January 2022 Newsletter! (And 2021 Work In Review)

This year should be interesting. You heard it here first—things of interest might be happening. Not to be mysterious!

Oh, btw, the livestream next weekend will be at NOON CST on Picarto! Saturday the 22nd!

MADISON

I finished Madison last year! It was as challenging as it was rewarding to complete. The initial seed of the idea—Bitty's first summer with a boyfriend being filled with anxiety, hopefulness, warmth, and small-town Georgia vibes—is still strong in this zine. But it has been infused with all of the knowledge I have about comics making. I'm SO excited to share it with Kickstarter backers!

BARDA

I spent the beginning of winter finishing the script for BARDA. (Which still hasn't been announced?? Oh well, I've been paid.) Oh my god. (Oh my new gods?) I'm so obsessed with these characters!! The planet of Apokolips is so insanely awful and produces the most hardened individuals. It's a change from writing everyone's favorite pie-maker, but themes of friendship and love still ring true. AAGGH CAN'T WAIT!

FLIP

I had to put penciling FLIP on hold as I finished up Madison and Barda, but we're back, baby. January and February of 2022 = All Flip All The Time. I just penciled some pages this afternoon, actually.

2021 Year in Review

I, uh, got a lot of work done in 2021, somehow. 

FLIP
- Penciled ~200 pages of the original graphic novel
- Inked ~30 pages
- Thumbnailed ~300 pages

CHECK, PLEASE!
- Inked ~20+ pages of comics for Check, Please!: Madison & colored ~50 pages.
- Launched and funded most-funded webcomics Kickstarter in history.
- Created 8 new illustrations via Ask-A-Wellies or to satisfy my need to draw Derek Nurse

BARDA:
- Wrote & revised graphic novel outline
- Wrote & completed draft for ~180-page script
- Made 2-4 character design drawings for 7 characters and one dozen environmental designs

SOFTBALL STORY:
- Revised and finalized 250+ page graphic novel script for penciler.

TEACHING:
- Revised & updated syllabus for Digital Coloring Workshop. Conducted 22 hours of Zoom instruction on coloring for Center for Cartoon Studies.
- Created application, contacted attendees, and taught free workshop via Cartoonist Toolbox.

FANDOM:
- wrote ~11,934 words of fanfiction/script fic
- drew 9-page full color nsfw comic
- drew 30-page full color viral comic
- drew ~125 pieces of fanart
- wrote and presented a 20-minute PowerPoint on Star Wars and camp aesthetic.
