Hey Gray! - ahhhh!! Thank you for keeping up with my art for such a long time! - If I were you, I'd stick with a simple "hard" brush for starting off. I've found that in Clip Studio, nearly all of the default pen brushes can make a great line. - Proportioning characters hmmmmm. I actually try to keep my characters between 6-7 heads tall! In close-up shots, I falter a bit, and they get closer to 5, but in general 6-7 might work for a cartoony style. Thanks!

Glad I could help!

Thank you so so much!! I'm a first year game arts and design major & one of our finals this term is to create a 6-page comic book, & I knew I wanted to make one in a style similar to your so these posts really help. I've admired your style since I was in 7th grade, & now I'm in college! A lot of time flew by but my whole teenage years were formed thanks to you. If you have any tips for choosing the right brush when doing digi art and creating an original story line, it would mean a lot :)) Oh and how to proportion characters! I've already got the fundamentals for realistic humans(lol) down but for cartoon styles like yours, how did you do it? Thank you!!

I sat staring at this on tumblr for a long time last night, thank you for showing the process!!!!

Whoo-hoo! Awesome that you're jumping into art. I'd say get a simple program like paint tool sai or clip studio and go nuts with fanart. Try to make a zine. Drawing from life and doing still life and figure drawing studies is the best approach. (Do studies >> read tutorials >> do studies >> repeat) Traditional studies translate to digital art, especially painting/color. Hope that helps!

I love your breakdowns and seeing your process! (And I love Toph!) Seeing these posts and watching your live-streams inspired me to take an art class last year. I still haven’t had the opportunity to try digital art, but I’m interested in learning about it. I feel like you’ve answered similar questions before, so I apologize for making you repeat yourself, but what do you recommend as the best way to get started? Are there free/cheap options for someone who’s considering this as more of a hobby than a career path? Or, alternatively, are there ways to practice using traditional mediums that you feel translate to digital art? Or is it a whole other beast? Sorry for asking so many questions lol thank you again for sharing this post!
