Writing New Projects

I've spent the first days of this new year doing a lot of outlining for projects I cannot disclose! Let's call them Project Freetail and Project Yesenia. Project Freetail is a collaboration with a larger comic company, hasn't totally been greenlit, and is in pre-production.  The prospects for working with a bigger publisher are always motivating, but I've also had projects fall through with big companies in their most nascent stages. So I precede with caution. Right now with Project Freetail, my mind is off in space trying to build a three-dimensional character from scratch.

Project Yesenia is a story I'm keeping closer to the vest, since it's more personal and not at all as "fandomy" as Check, Please! was.  We can leave shipping at home, though AUs might be welcome. I'm familiar with what makes a space a fun sandbox for fans and what subsequently makes fandom, and this is not that.  #OMGCP was external and Yesenia is introspective. 

I'll keep y'all in the loop on both of these projects! Please do not analyze the WIP names--they mean nothing. 😆

I'VE BEEN:
- answering a million emails from First Second about touring!! I'M SO EXCITED FOR STICKS & SCONES
- working on tons of promo material, including the header of this post (ECCC 2020!) and the following linework for this Eric Bittle Pre-Game Playlist poster:

- And some tedium: re-lettering and exporting Check, Please! comics ahead of time (instead of like, the morning of the day I update the site) so we can have one final Bitty bomb. 🙏

SCAD Mentorship!

In December, my mentees each sent me a pitch packet for their individual comic projects. I even got to hold office hours on Discord with them. I'm so hyped! I absolutely love identifying their strengths and figuring out ways to bolster their weaknesses. This month, I'll be reviewing their comic thumbnails. I'm actually looking forward to typing of a dozen emails with feedback? I'M TEACHIN' Y'ALL.
