2023-09-14 20:18:25 +0000 UTCWell progressive isn't actually a retell, it's entirely new material, the only reason that the first movie seems like a retell is because the original anime "adapted" the story that would become the first story of Progressive in episode 2. (in other words the squished content worth a whole movie into Episode 2 of the first season of the anime) Which likely was also a deciding factor for the switch in perspective, simply because it would be a fresh perspective, the source material for Progressive is still generally from Kirito's POV with other characters getting POV chapters in between.

Also you have the progressive movies to watch after... Cof Cof Season 1 retell from another caracter perspective... so we have content after you finish alicization.
