"You respond to the plight of a damsel in distress, only to find out later that she was a Synth! How would you react? That's the premise I have in mind for an episode where Spike, being the robotics fanatic that he is, gets really excited when he meets a Synth for the first time.
I originally planned to use the skeletal and mechanical design of the Gen 1 Synth, but it proved too detailed to use in the comics since I have to use the same design in multiple frames, so I ended up using part of the artificial skin from the Gen 2 models to cover most of the mechanisms.
I didn't plan on introducing the Institute so early in the comics, since it would be a big antagonist in the Transformers crossover, but I couldn't resist heh."
