New Game: Melody

After receiving the approval from Patreon, today I’d like to share with you our plans for the new game. The game will be called Melody and our first update (Melody: Episode 1) will be released on March 23rd.
I’ve decided to name our updates with chapters and not with numbers this time (e.g. v0.01, v0.02, etc.) so that way it sounds less confusing for new players. The first episode will be quite long, just so we can give you all a better idea of what our two main characters are all about, what their respective backgrounds are, and how secondary characters tie into their everyday lives.
Main Plot
You play a session musician who has had a busy lifestyle, having worked in various cities and towns across the country. This has been your life, ever since you graduated from college, where you attained a degree in the field of Music.
Once returning home, you decide to leave the place you grew up in, to start a new life and a fresh start in another town. You have also decided to take a break from the job you know so well, to focus on a brand-new career. You’re just not sure what that will be yet.
In order to keep the money coming in, you decide to take up a job offer, tutoring Melody, the niece of a woman you meet by chance via an online marketplace. Melody is currently studying music in college, so having an experienced tutor is pretty important for her chosen career path.
About the dating system
You will be spending time with Melody every day. Aside from one-on-one lessons you will have with her, you will also be accompanying her at various music related activities. If all goes well, you may even be able to go out on a date with her. And if that goes well too, it could lead to something even better!
You will be making decisions between two or more options, that will negatively or positively affect the outcome of the date and the main story as well.
There will be a number of secondary characters and you'll be able to start a romantic relationship with them too.
Will you be that guy that wins Melody's heart and has her singing to her own tune again? Is it possible that you and Melody can make beautiful music together one day?
What would you like to see in the new game?
We are in the early stages of creating the game, so I’d like to know what features, scenes, clothing, characters, etc. you would like to see in this project.
The plan is that you and Melody will take several trips to different cities and get to do different music and non-music related activities while you are there. A concept similar to DMD.
A lot of the coolest ideas and scenes used in DMD came from you guys so I’d like you to help me shape this visual novel into a great game. Of course, we will take the ideas as a suggestion and in the end, we’ll decide if we implement them or not.
I’ll be sharing more renders and updates during this month with my patrons. Overall, we’re really excited to start with this project. We’ve learned a lot from our first game and we’ll try not to make the same mistakes we have made in the past.

(The bad boy idea that, by the female on closer inspection, has the veneer worn off when compared to MC). The music teacher idea would do the opposite - showing the Jedi vs Sith choices. (Now if we can get some porgs to sing backup, as well as Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, we would have a full Star Wars tie in)

When you arrive at his college you see how the girls adore him in favor of their class mates and you get to know his girl friend the team leader of the cheer leaders. He and his girl friend will tell you some secrets thereby serving as a role model for an established old and young relationship . They push you forward into a sexy but honest relationship with Melody. On the other hand one of your former band colleagues also lot older than you uses his allure as a "rock star" to get to bed with girls and show´s it to you when he invites you over to his place to show you his dirty tricks on his ever changing playmates "live" and tries to convince you to corrupt your new music student Melody into your plaything as well. The teacher and the rockstar serve as your concious with one being an angel and the other a devil whispering to your mind. The positive effect is that this way we will also see some more sexy characters along the way who stick to the teacher and rock star.

If she is not used in a familial manner then patreon is not yet god enough to forbid it. Just because she looks the same is not a valid reason for a ban. Most of these creators share models from various creation tools but this model has proven unique and i would like to see her again.

I know an other game designer (not on Patreon) who builds this feature in almost every game - and he has many female follower and gamer because of that. And since the new game (also like the old game) will have a slow built-up (I hope so) and won't be a 'see - f**k - and go' game it could catch female players / fans / followers / patrons too. Like Marie wrote the MC will have the same experiences regardless of his/her gender. The story as such will be the same.

I know and can understand someone were addicted to these 'other' girl because of her 'unnatural' appearance (honestly me too). But this will be a new game, a new story and also a new and different girl. Who says that there will not be a slowly built-up of a beautiful relationship too? I think this will also be the main concept of the new game.

Although the original saving system provides an unlimited count of save states it is very poor, you can't even name a save stand. The solution MrDots used (I don't think he 'invented' it) was very good in my eyes. If you named the save stands properly you could find everything again. In addition with a plain text file where I've noticed on which save stand page a different story path starts I had no problem to go through the story over and over again.

I think she should not be sooo shy as D was but she should be a little bit hesitant - so that it needs some work to get her heart... Second, I hope there are also as many side story arcs / different ways through the story as in DMD. Also the "plus/minus point system" should give the player the chance to reach his goal if not the first time then on a slower pace over two or three dates. A bad date (better is 'not so good' date) shouldn't lead to a GAME OVER. In real life there also isn't all lost, so the game should continue.

I guess I just expected a more ambitious and similarly complex project that would bridge what came before to whatever will come after this one. It allowed you to invest the character you wanted on a more generic MC. —. In Melody, there is going to be a more defined MC along with a defined world they inhabit. Thus, there is a possibility that the immersion might be lost with characters and situations that a jarring to some players. — I can see your point. This will be a more finite VN than DMD, and therefore it’s getting more finite choices; think of it as the diffence between a movie and a twilight zone episode. —. This smaller more defined VN is partially because MDots is working on another 3 chapter product at the same time. —. See how it plays out. And thanks for the comments on the writing - it’s been mostly Hearz doing the heavy lifting on writing on the new product. —. I hear the valid points. Even if it can’t be used in the main storyline of this VN - cold t be used somewhere in a “mini thread” in this VN - an then perhaps to greater effect in a later VN. — in effect, you have the same secondary characters experiencing the same person to person relationship with MC; dialogue could be lightly tweaked if even necessary (assuming you don’t make a big deal it’s a FF relationship instead of a MF one). — in first person mode you don’t even see any of the MC in the renders for most of the time. ‘‘Tis genius! Perhaps he'd felt that this was as good as he was ever going to get and he was just spinning his wheels. If so he might be unaware of something I've heard over and over. If you want to get good at something, teach it. Many martial artists feel that to get past a certain level you must start teaching. If so, tutoring Melody would be just what the doctor ordered.

She might also believe that if Melody is going to learn and grow she'll have to have the freedom to take chances and make mistakes. The training wheels have to come off sooner or later. If that's true she may also have given the Protagonist more of a background check than he's aware of and may be paying closer attention than she's letting on.

But what I am saying is that I would like to have a choice to how the character looks that I would be playing and not who they have sex with. There is no need to write a second story for the female character, who would instead of girls fuck guys. 2018-02-08 16:54:41 +0000 UTCHonestly the summary sounds like it was rushed out by one of your imitators, that's what makes it feel bland (though perhaps this is all due to the situation and the imposed oversight?). The taboo only worked before because it was used as a plot device/driver and it was written for the specific game and characters - honestly I was looking forward to no fetish/taboo content this time round. The beauty of the previous game was due to the elegant simplicity of plot, setting, characters, and dialogue writing. The loose structure provided flexibility for varied sequences which is what helped to generate and retain mass audience appeal. The music "world" described in the main summary and your post is quite niche, and even before playing I'm already losing interest. I'm just skeptical about the narrow focus of both the plot framework and setting but, again, I hope I'm proven to be wrong (though if there's any scumbag content I'm gone).

It's just M is more stunning. Here proportions fit bodysize etc. Tastes differ and that's a good thing. Maybe in the future it's possible to change the looks of Melody. Not sure how a boob job will improve relationships but that's for MrDots to figure out, if he likes this idea

But we are spoiled because the last game was absolutely amazing! I do not see this one being as popular as the last one. And yes the taboo part has a lot to do with it. That is the #1 fantasy in all cultures all over the world both male and female. My girlfriend and I played the last game together using our names for the characters. We are both still crossing our fingers that Mr. Dots will find a way to put a taboo option in this game as well.

For example I liked the Georgia character a lot but not nearly as much as D. The only complaint I have with the other girls was them not having breast. That was very strange to me. They looked like boys when they were naked. As for the faces in my opinion all of them were great! I think having a mixture of younger girls and some older is the way to go. I like both depending on the mood I'm in. But please bigger breast please!

The strength of having her a secret fangirl trying to impress is that you get to have an otherwise intelligent person making dumb decisions. You might want to rewatch 'Almost Famous', 'Ray', and a few others. The CBC also has years of musician interviews that you can listen to for free. Q is one of their better known interview shows.

One famous musician said of them 'I found out six of my favourite drummers were the same guy' or something like that. If Melody is a music geek she might know exactly who he is. She may even be be more star-struck by him than anyone else she meets. She might even have had a fangirl brain melt when she found out who the 'some guy from the internet' her clueless Mom hired to tutor her is. Of course she'd be too afraid to let on what a huge fan she is while simultaneously doing all sorts of dumb things trying to impress him.

One last job before he's out the door. Then he meets Melody. Teaching her reminds him of how it was when he first started and in helping her he rediscovers his love of music. Maybe a bit trite but it does emotionally up the stakes.

With DMD you went with a the shy, naive female lead with an overbearing, controlling, manipulative mother. With this I'd guess a good way to go would be with an energetic, outgoing, star struck female lead in Melody with [perhaps] an absentee mother? Not a bad person. Not uncaring, just busy and used giving the kid free reign and hiring someone to keep an eye on her. Possibly a high flying businesswoman or executive? That would explain how she can afford him, why they'd have so much unsupervised free time together, and how they could afford all the travel. Probably not in the music industry though, otherwise she'd have other connections to find a tutor and the villains of the piece would be significantly more wary of trying to exploit poor Melody for fear of the Mother.

But this time four of us (MrDots included) were able to give our input on the Melody character, and will look to do the same for all secondary characters this time around.

What about that is particularly bland - is it because it does not have any taboo issues? Hopefully the specificity of the situation will allow for some vibrant scenes related to college, music recording and performance, clubbing, etc. — remember the story arc of this is about 1/3 the length of MDots previous project.

Some of the characters in the other game looked too young and made me feel like a pedophile for pursuing them. Needless to say, I wasn't interested in romancing them. I understand that this is a fairly popular fetish and if you decide to go in that direction then so be it, but in my opinion I would prefer characters that look at least 18. Melody looks fine in the above image, so this is mainly just addressing secondary character criteria.

Honestly the plot, setting and characters for this new game sound bland and forced, then there's the imposed oversight by Patreon, so I can't help but feel skeptical at this point. The direction this is going is a pretty specific world and isn't nearly as universal as what it's replacing. Best of luck, I really hope to be proven wrong. And really hope that you don't forget what made the team what it is today.

I'd greatly appreciate if Melody tends up having the same well-endowed body type as the female MC in the other game. She hit pretty much all the right buttons in my body fetishes list, and as the other, great game was tragically cut short by £$%& censorship, I wish for D to reincarnate in Melody, at least as certain traits go. Some of my most preferred eroge games were based on development of romantic and friendship bonds within music bands questing for success, so this combined with the authors' skills gives me high hopes. Just give me my cherished watermelons back, please. As the female MC's personality goes, I'm not averse at her being a little more self-confident and assertive than D was, if she is supposed to be looking for artistic success from the start.

Could be fun, since playing off music, to include a bit of rave and festival scenes, possibly drug use (healthy, fun, sweet, not saying spiraling out or roofies) just to have something taboo (since can't do some of what was in DMD).. I still haven't images DMD2 cause I'm scared after the patreon thing all relations in that plot might have been forced to change unnaturally - I love the story too much for that, but I also so wanna see how it ended :'(

For me..this model lacks the aura and physical appeal of previous, will she hold me here at the twenty i have pledged since MrDots started...we will see. It may be that for me its time to move on. I too like the slow pace and building of affection, which is the reason I'm still here after the fiasco mentioned above. The challenge should come from winning her affection. Mr dots also creates people you can care about and invest emotion in, so I don't need the sort of anxiety part 1 of the other game inflicted.

And there were discussions between MrDots and I making sure we made Melody completely different from the other female characters we have used, taking every feature into consideration. Initially she had a tattoo (as you may have seen last week in the pages avatar), but we scrapped that idea due to feedback. I think we have the design for Melody we're happy to run with now.

Additionally the clothes reflecting that would be interesting too ie. Metal head wearing denim and leather, etc... I was really interested in seeing the job options in DMD, and was sad to see it be scrapped. Maybe, this would serve a way of doing it, but not be as daunting with keeping track of developing multiple paths. I'm always a fan of having more control of the narrative. Ultimately, I am a huge music nerd and this I am pleasantly looking forward to. Hopefully can do some interesting things with the theme, maybe have an Easter egg with Koko being in the game ;P

Melody doesn't strike me as naive and may actually have more experience relating to people, namely boys. My hope is that failure doesn't occur at an immediate failed pass. Maybe she lets some things go and some others don't incur a negative strike on the player. Going back to DMD, please look into Maker Support or Hatreon. I want to see DMD completed. Thanks.

I wish you'ld not have branched the story so much as in if the Daughter was your main focus rather than dividing your effort amongst side characters there'ld be more content for her, maybe it would be finished already, I could trade all other characters' scenes for hers.
