Pretend Princess Pt8-14 (Mini Captions)

Pretend Princess Pt8

After getting up on my own and realizing that if I’m to pretend to be the princess, I can’t just do things she doesn’t know how to do, I pretended to know very little about riding a horse as my instructor taught me the basics.

Instead of having fun riding around on a horse and jumping around. The horse and I walked around for a few minutes while I learned to steer, which I think disappointed both of us. Not sure if I’m right, but I think the horse can tell I know how to ride it and was expecting to actually run wild today.

Or perhaps it’s just me when it comes to horses. I’ve always loved them and had no problem bonding with them. I still remember the horse I actually learned to ride on, Yuin. To most, he was just a normal-looking horse; to me, he was the bravest and best horse a knight could ask for.

Pretend Princess Pt9

After my horseback riding lessons, if you could call them that. I was brought inside and cleaned off, then put into another dress. I was now off to attend the opening of the new hospital being opened in the middle of the town.

I was told I’d get to cut some ribbon using a sword, which sounds exciting. I haven’t held one since I got turned into a woman. I sort of miss the weight of it in my hand and the sound it makes breaking the air. I’ve been going mad since I can’t train every day like I used to.

Hopefully this all ends soon and I can go back to normal, but for now I’m the princess and have to do her duties. Which includes cutting ribbons, looking beautiful, and I guess giving a speech in front of the people about hope or something.

Pretend Princess Pt10

The grand opening of the hospital was quite intense. A lot of people were cheering for me and trying to ask me questions, and I’m pretty sure some of them asked me to marry them. I never realized how crazy these things were.

There were so many people, and they were loud, and I’ll admit I was a bit nervous about speaking to them, but once I got up in front of them, I just imagined what Gwyna would say, and I swear it was like she was whispering into my ear telling me what to say.

I gave a decent speech, and the crowd loved it. They then cheered loudly for me, or I guess the princess, as I was handed a ceremonial sword and cut the ribbon, doing my best to seem inexperienced with a sword, which isn’t that hard with how awful ceremonial swords are as blades.

Pretend Princess Pt11

After the hospital, it was time for my first tea party, which I’m more nervous about than I was speaking to the crowd. I was hoping the etiquette lesson would come first so that I could refresh myself on how to behave.

So now I’ll just have to rely on my memories of Gwyna to help me out. I’ve seen her do hundreds of these; surely that’ll help? Though both tea parties today are with princes from other kingdoms, both of whom Gwyna has never interacted with before.

Now that I think of it. It was strange to suddenly have two princes show up in one day, both of whom Gwyna had never met. Something was up, but what was it? What could they possibly want from Gwyna?

Pretend Princess Pt12

I sit down outside in the garden and watch as the maids start bringing out trays of food and a tea set. They start preparing tea, and I strike up a conversation with them about the type of tea and desserts they picked out today.

Our conversation was cut off when a couple of guards came in and loudly announced the arrival of Prince Turner, third prince of the kingdom of Davensberge. After they finished speaking, a cocky-looking man wearing fine silk walked inside.

He had short red hair and was quite fit, but something about him seemed off, almost like there was something hidden behind his eyes. I already don’t trust him, but the princess wouldn’t be like that; she’d extend peace and love before distrust, so that’s what I’ll do as well… for now.

Pretend Princess Pt13

I stand up and greet Prince Turner, and he smiles. He comes over and grabs my hand, and in the typical gross prince way, he bends down to one knee and kisses my hand. I’m glad he was looking at my hand, as I couldn’t hide my disgust.

Once he stood back up, he insisted on leading me to my chair and pushing me in, which, despite wanting to kick him in his princely jewels, I let him do it. He sat across from me, and the maids started to serve us some treats and tea.

Prince Turner ignored them, not once looking at them to thank them. He took a sip of the tea and looked annoyed. He turned and looked at one of the maids; his face turned red, and he opened his mouth but didn’t say anything. Instead, he closed his mouth and looked back at me.

Pretend Princess Pt14

My bad feeling about this guy was getting stronger. Was he simply going to yell at the maids, or would he have done worse? I know the only reason he stopped was because I was here, but why? Is he trying to impress me?

It finally hit me: he’s the third prince, which means he has no kingdom to inherit, so he’s likely looking for one, and since I’m—I mean, Princess Gwyna is the only child of our king, it means she’ll become queen one day.

That means this guy is here to court the princess… And since I’m in her place, that means I’m being courted by a prince, and later today I’ll have a completely different prince likely trying to achieve the same goal….

Reading your list just reminded me of the main four people in fire emeblem three house lol. I think they make up that list. But yes, you're right, he is the first. C:

I've long noticed a pattern in various fantasy stories: princes (and generally characters with even a modicum of power) fall into four main types: 1. Arrogant, greedy, pompous, and stupid bastards who make you sick 2. Kind and bright individuals who truly do good 3. People who are inherently good but constrained by circumstances and unable to change the world 4. Schemers and manipulators who see a thousand steps ahead and whose spider web you fell into yesterday In principle, there are others, but they are either fewer in number or less memorable. So, today's prince is clearly the first option. I wonder if the next one will be the same? All the signs are there, but it's too early to draw conclusions.
