Getting An Upgrade MKII

In the year 4531 society reached the peak in medical science and body manipulation through biological and technological means. It's been used in tons of different ways to help the planet and humans evolve, and it has several ways that are kinda of meaningless, like entertainment.

That's where I come in. You see, I live in the underworld, which is just the name for the surface of the world now since most people live in floating cities above the earth. Down here, there aren't many jobs for us, so most of us participate in the fighting arenas.

After many years I was dethroned from my title as champion by an extremely mechcanicly enhanced fighter. The fight left my body destroyed, so some overworld doctors placed my brain inside the body of a female fighter.

Not only was it female, it had some enhancements. At first, the enhancements annoyed me, but having increased speed is great, although these metal plates on my arms were uncomfortable all the time.

I was also stuck like this unless I agreed to sign up to be an overworld-sponsored fighter. They said if I fought for them, they’d take me up to the overworld and change this body however I wanted.

So I signed up and began training. They kept telling me I was doing great and I had a good chance to make it to the finals, where I could have a rematch with the man who put me in this body.

When the time came, my team signed me up to be in the next tournament and I got into the arena to fight my first opponent. The first guy was as small as me but had flamethrowers for arms.

With my speed, I was easily able to avoid his flames until he ran out of fuel.  Once he did, I ran toward him and drove the metal spiked plates on my forearm through his stomach. He fell to the ground and I was declared the winner.

He was dragged off to the medical tent, and the next match started. After about an hour of other opponents fighting I was called back to the arena for my next match. This time I was up against a guy who had so many mechanical enhancements that he looked like an armored Knight.

The match began and I ran around him looking for an opening, but it didn't seem like he had any. I went in for and attacked and bounced off of him. The guy didn’t even move an inch, it was like he was just waiting.

When I landed I put a good amount of distance between us, and I just looked at him. He had to be planning something but what? That was when I saw the ground underneath him start to glow. I was trying to figure out what he was doing when he suddenly shot up into the air.

It turned out he had a rocket under his armor. He used it to launch himself at me, and even though I was fast I couldn’t outrun a rocket. He slammed into me and carried me until we smashed into the wall of the arena.

I felt all of my ribs crack and my spine snap. The pain was immense for a few moments until I passed out. Much like the last time I lost, my consciousness faded and I heard doctors working on me.

I once again woke up in a medical bed, but this time my entire torso felt stiff and cold, along with my lower arms. I lifted my arms up to look at them, they were now completely replaced. I jumped up and started yelling at the doctors.

They told me that my last fight left a majority of my bones damaged, so they replaced them with a new synthetic metal replacement. Since my ribs were all broken there was a bit of damage to my lungs, so they repaired them and added a mechanical exoskeleton to protect them better.

That makes sense, but I again asked them why they replaced my arms. Most of them shrugged and said that after that last fight, I needed a way to be stronger, so with these new arms I could easily punch through armor like that last guy had.

I was angry so I decided to test it out right there by punching the thick concrete wall, and to my surprise, I made a huge hole. My anger subsided, and I was actually impressed with the power behind these things.

No wonder all my opponents were so strong, now I perhaps stand a better chance. I asked the doctors if I was cleared to go back to training and they cleared me to leave. I asked them for my clothes and they told me they didn’t have any.

I was confused and asked them what I was supposed to walk around in, and they told me I didn't need anything now that I had the skeleton. I told them that was ridiculous, but they shoved me out of the medical room.

I was incredibly embarrassed walking around, I felt like I was naked, and there wasn’t a single that didn't look at me as I walked by. I just ran to the training area and did my best to ignore them and the feeling.

Training did help me forget about it, as I got to test out the new limits of my body. Like the doctors said, I could easily punch through most types of medals, and thanks to the exoskeleton secured to my body, I could take hits better.

Plus it’s also attached to my legs, so I can run and jump much higher, paired with the biological enhancements this body already had, I was easily twice as fast. My trainers were so impressed by my improvements.

They compiled data on the last tournament and calculated that I’d still need more training to be able to beat the champ, but they had a plan. They planned to hire teammates for me, well at least in a sense.

We’ll still be competitors in the ring, but when training we’ll train together. So I’ll have real fighters to practice against instead of dummies, or random staff in padded suits. So, hopefully with these upgrades, and new recruits I can become the champ and get my body fixed.

Comments

Surviving death once is already unlikely, but pulling off a similar trick twice... I doubt that this is an accident, I suspect that someone’s evil intent is involved here!... and even with the current improvements, the probability of his victory tends to zero... he needs to become even more accomplished!
