A commission for last_of_workers

After finding myself transported to another world, which seemed to be based on the game series Portal, and arriving to find I was now in the body of its main character, Chell, I began to make my way through the game.

My hope was that I could get to the end, and right before GLaDOS deletes Caroline, I can ask her for help getting back home. I follow the very annoying and incompetent Wheatley through the broken-down Aperture Science.

I have to admit, as scary as this all was, it was really fun to use the portal gun. Making portals, picking up companion cubes, and solving the puzzles in person was thrilling. If only there wasn't an actual danger of dying here, then I could mess around a bit more freely.

Once we arrive at GLaDOS’ chamber, I plug Wheatley into the machine and tell him to just take us up. He tried to say it was a bad idea because she was up there. I told him to do it anyway, as I needed her to be awake if I stood any chance of getting home.

He said he wasn’t going to do it since he didn’t want to be deactivated by her, but then, to no one’s surprise, he did it anyway by mistake. We went up, all the switches turned on, and GLaDOS started to move.

I take my portal gun and use it to pick Wheatley up. I then waved the portal gun over my head, sending him flying across the room, which he made sure to yell at me as he flew that it was rude. GLaDOS got up and looked down at me.

She went right to talking about how I killed her and how I was going to regret it, but I cut her off and tried to explain my situation and that I was the real Chell. She didn’t seem to care, and a claw came from the ceiling and tried to grab me.

I jumped out of the way and created a portal and started to run away from her. The whole time I was running, she continued to talk to me as if I were still next to her. She told me it wasn’t fun being dead and that her facility had gone to ruins because I had killed her.

She then started to talk about all the fun we’d have together. I thought I had gotten away, but eventually she caught me and dropped me into one of her tests, but it surprisingly wasn’t the first chamber of chapter two, which was Lazer Intro.

Instead, I was in a completely new chamber. One that had cubes, jump pads, and some sort of eclectic conduit that I had to find pieces to and complete in order to open the door. I gulped when I saw it; I really didn’t have Chell’s courage, and all of this being new to me was very scary.

I had no choice though, I had to complete it, so even if I pretend. I’m going to act as brave and badass as Chell and get myself out of here. I use the first jump pad and fly across the room into a wall, and I’m surprised to find that hitting the wall and landing didn’t hurt one bit.

I look around from my new spot and find a cube. I use my portal gun to pick it up and head to another jump pad. I fly across the room again, and after using the cube to climb up to a new platform, I pull it up using the portal gun and place it on a big red button.

That causes one of the conduit pieces that I needed to drop out of a tube in the ceiling. I grab it and look around. There were two more buttons in this room, so it looks like my cube is coming with me. I take it and go jumping around again.

One of the buttons was on the floor where I started, so it was the easy one and likely meant to be the first one you do. The one I did before that was only mildly difficult to get to, which means that the last one was the hardest.

I had to place the cube on the button, which was high in the air, while being thrown across the room. I failed seven whole times, which made GLaDOS call me stupid and ask if I was even trying. She even joked about just doing it for me because I was so worthless.

Then she got really mean and said perhaps I was losing some height on my jump because I weighed so much. That one really hurt my feelings. I don’t weigh that much; I’m a cute, muscular girl with a nice body. As if to spite GLaDOS, I managed to get it after that.

I take the conduits over to the wall where they were needed and place them all in. I watch as it lights up and goes to the door to open it. I smiled, then turned my head. I made a quick stop to grab my trusty cube before going through the door.

I thought we were going to go places together, but GLaDOS activated the energy field that destroys cubes and turrets when you pass through them as I entered the elevator area. She then asked me how it felt to have something she liked killed.

Then she said that's how she felt, because, you know, I killed her. I roll my eyes and get in the elevator. I went through a few more chamber rooms, all of which were new and had completely new puzzle mechanics that I’d never seen.

Things like spinning the whole chamber around, so what was previously a wall or ceiling was now the floor. There were also a few chambers where I had to raise and lower the water levels in order to obtain edgeless cubes.

My favorite were the chambers where I had to use buttons to freeze things, then set them on fire as needed. It was quite the show. Eventually, my not-so-good friend Wheatley found me. He tells me that he was mad at me for throwing him at first.

However he came to the conclusion I did that in order to save him; that way he could save me and we could take down GLaDOS. I sighed and let him believe that, but I was more hoping he was just gone for good.

We then make our way around, making GLaDOS’ turrets useless and getting rid of her deadly neurotoxin. I then make my way back to GLaDOS to try and speak to her again. She doesn’t listen to me yet again, but that’s probably because of her corrupted core.

So she summons some useless turrets that all explode, tries to fill the room with neurotoxin, and then tries to use Wheatley as a cannonball to hit me. I dodge, and we all find ourselves standing here in a stalemate because of the core swapping process.

I look at GLaDOS and tell her, if she doesn’t listen and help me, I would swap her out with Wheatley, and she’d turn into a potato. She called me crazy, and Wheatley brought up that I might have brain damage. So I went ahead and did it.

Exactly as scripted in the story, Wheatley takes over, gets drunk on power in record time, accuses me of being a bad friend, taking advantage of him, and being rude, then turns GLaDOS into a potato. He then argues with GLaDOS for a bit before I’m dropped from the room.

I begin free falling downward to the lost levels of Aperture, and PotatOS comes out of nowhere. She starts complaining about how evil I am because I made a cruel plan to put the moron Wheatley in charge and turn her into a potato.

It seems I changed the story a bit, and now PotatOS thinks I planned that from the start and not that it was just something Wheatley was going to do. I told her I warned her and that all she had to do was help me.

She finally gave in and asked what I wanted from her. I told her all about my original world and how I got here. She said my brain damage was worse than she thought, but I told her I could prove it. She told me to do it then.

So as we landed, I called her Caroline. That got some mixed reactions. I then started talking to her about Cave Johnson, then going over all kinds of details about the portal world that one would only know because they played the games.

PotatOS believed me, mostly because the whole thing with Caroline was starting to happen. I then tell her that I’ll be out of her hair as soon as she gets control back of Aperture and helps me make some sort of portal that\brings me home.

She agreed to try and do that if I gave her control back, and the two of us started to explore the underground areas. It was all broken down, so there weren't many ways for me to alter how the story goes since there’s only one real path to take, but I did go slower in order to talk more with PotatOS.

We eventually make it to the final part of the game, the part where he kills me. The final battle with Wheatley was here, and hopefully after all my hard work, PotatOS will keep her word and help me find a way home.

Perhaps she could have changed the story if one of the people she dealt with wasn't a lovable idiot and the other a murderous psychopath. However, it's what we love about them!

I know it doesn't show in the story, but I love Wheatley so much! The scenes with him are my favorite!

Riley

I love the part where he kills you.

Have you ever dreamed of being in the place of the main character of some story? Or maybe thought that if you were in the place of some character, the story would go differently? Or maybe you thought that knowing the whole plot, you could influence the story from the inside? Well, our beloved Chell found herself in exactly this situation, but alas, she is not able to change anything radically, and knowing future plot twists often leads to trouble, and it would be easier for her not to interfere in anything, but this is a dead end because she can’t do nothing!
