My name Is Brycena Olacooper. I'm nineteen years old and a knight in the Crystaltide army, I’m also the personal servant and sworn shield of Princess Cindyith Dobholland. Some time ago, the princess had visions of an evil that was coming to destroy the kingdom.
Leoslight and I encounter a very powerful demon woman on our way to the location of the second half of the artifact. With the power of teamwork, we were able to beat the demon, but she used some dirty tricks and created a devastating explosion using her life force.
Leoslight shielded me from the blast, but they took the full brunt of it as a result, and I felt their energy begin to fade. Their eyes then closed and they fell backward. I jumped forward and caught them. My eyes filled with tears as I shook them trying to wake them up.
I begged and pleaded with them to wake up and not die, but they didn’t respond. I summoned my new power bestowed to me by the goddess and pointed it at them. I wasn't sure I could, but I was hoping I could heal Leoslight.
I was able to share a bit of energy with them, enough to keep them stable for now, but not enough to heal their wounds, or enough for them to recover on their own. I knew I had to do something quick, or else I’d lose them.
I pull Leoslight over to a nearby tree, prop them up, and hide their body using some tree branches just in case another demon comes by. I then look towards the crater where the entrance to the ruins had once been.
With the destruction from our battle, the real entrance to the ruins was exposed, which meant I could get inside. I drop down, slide over to the ruins, and make my way inside. I close my eyes and sense the magic around me.
The artifact was still here, but so were the monsters that protected it. I summon my sword and start to make my way towards the lower levels. Along the way I’m met with several skeleton knights, all wearing what seemed similar to the armor that knights of Cyrstaltide wear.
Strangely for monsters, there was something different about them. They didn’t hold malicious intent and only attacked when I got closer to them. The strangest thing though was how they fought, it was exactly like how my master taught me.
These skeletons were easy to beat, and once I slashed them apart, their bones merely fell to the ground lifeless. I made my way downwards and found myself in a room with mirrors and a pedestal that looked like light was supposed to come out of it.
I walked over and cast fire on the pedestal but nothing happened. I looked around, perhaps the light source came to the pedestal from somewhere else. After looking for a bit, there was no sign that was the case.
So I walked back over to the pedestal and cleared the dust and vines off of it. On the side were some carvings that seemed to be some sort of knight lighting the pedestal up with magic. I kicked the damn thing, that was exactly what I did.
I stood up frustrated and looked towards the door wondering if I could just smash it down since I didn’t have time to deal with these stupid dungeon puzzles. That’s when I noticed more carvings on the wall of the knight.
I walk over to it and examine it. Each one shows the knight using magic from many different elements. One of them they split the earth in two with just a stomp, the next seemed to be them stopping the rain in midair.
After that, the knight seemed to be summoning tornados, and after that, the knight seemed to be flying with fire, but there was one more after that. It had the knight seemingly healing someone with the power of light.
I looked down at my hands, was that the power of the goddess blessing? The full power of it? I looked at the pedestal. Is that power that I need to use on the pedestal? I walk back over to it and summon it like I had done before.
Once my hand started to glow, I stuck it inside the pedestal and I was amazed to find it lit up and shot out a beam of light. I watched the light go right to a wall and I knew imminently that I was going to have to guide this light around until it hit some sort of switch.
I turn the pedestal towards the first mirror and watch where the light ends up after it hits it. I followed the light zigzagging it back and forth in the room until I got to a mirror that had a wall covering it from the direction the light needed to come to.
I look around and find a pressure plate on the floor. I walk over and step on it and the wall opens up and the light continues, but the main door doesn’t open, which means I wasn't done, but if I step off of this, the wall will close up again.
I walked around the corner where I believed the light was going next and found that the mechanism the light needed to activate was right there. It just needed another mirror. I turn back around and inspect the wall until I find a part of it that could be pushed in.
I push it in and another mirror comes out, but only for a second. I punch the wall as I grow frustrated again. How was I supposed to stand on the pressure plate and hit this button at the same time? They were around the corner from each other.
I look back at the button and smile. The answer was obvious. I’ll just use my blessing to be faster right? I activated it and pushed the button in as much as it would go in. I then basically flew around the corner and jumped on the pressure plate.
It felt like a second had gone by, yet somehow that didn’t work. I quell my power again and think. Part of this puzzle was the light, so maybe this was a trial for the knight. One who had a blessing and the skills of a true knight.
If that were the case, I already did the blessing part by lighting the pedestal. So maybe I needed to prove my skills without magic. I smile, if that’s the case this should be easier than I previously thought. If there’s one thing I’m confident in, it’s my non-magical skills.
I summon my bow and quiver and ready an arrow. I stepped on the pressure plate and revealed the mirror. Using the bottom of the mirror where the light doesn’t hit, I watched as I shot the wall below it and ricocheted an arrow around the corner.
I missed horribly the first time, but I readjusted and shot again, this time getting closer. I did this over and over until I ran out of arrows. I then walked around and collected all the arrows that hadn’t broken on impact and tried again.
I was feeling slightly less confident in my skills, but I was still determined, and on my third shot I did it. The arrow bounced off one wall, hit the button, and the light continued and activated the mechanism, opening the main door.
I run around the corner excited and look at the button. I frown as I feel like an idiot. The arrow did hit the button, but it got wedged inside, which was how the button stayed pressed. I sigh, rub my head, and walk through the main door.
Once I enter the door closes behind me. I looked back and then forward to the center of the room where a knight wearing armor exactly like in all the wall carvings stood. I walked forward and tried to greet him, but he didn’t respond.
I then asked him who he was, which was when I sensed their power increasing. I quickly summoned my great sword and lifted it up to block, and not even a split second later the knight had reached me and clashed their sword against mine.
They were strong, much stronger than the demon, which wasn’t good. It took both Leoslight and myself to beat her, so I don’t know if I stand a chance. The knight jumped back and his power went back down to the point that I couldn't really sense it.
Though his attack made my arms numb, I kept a defensive stance, and once again asked them who they were. They then reached up, and I was prepared for another attack, but instead, they went to remove their helmet. Before it came off though, the knight claimed they were the hero of light.
