The King of Flaryus Evostilus had declared his intention of conquering the world over half a century ago and thus began the Great War. As the years went on, fight after fight, he secured all but one land, an Independent kingdom known as Hooleus.
For some reason though instead of conquering it like he did the others, he left them alone and considered his conquest complete. He then enjoyed the remaining years of his reign as emperor of the world.
Recently though his health started to fail due to old age and Evostilus was unable to do his duties, so his eldest daughter Evostila finally ascended the throne and became the empress. Evostila was nothing like her father.
She had ambition like him, but she fell short of his tactical prowess and was quick to anger especially when she didn't get her way. She was a hateful arrogant person, but a life of being treated like the most important person alive will do that.
She saw everyone beneath her, and that included those in the kingdom of Hooleus. To her, they were a stain on her father's legacy. She never knew why he never conjured them, but what she did know was now that she was empress, she would succeed where he failed.
She would conquer Hooleus and become the one true ruler. So for months, she prepared her armies for an all-out assault on her enemy. She sent spies to the kingdom to bring back any information they could and she began her planning.
Evostila discovered the kingdom was currency without an office leader. They do have a Prince who should have been crowned king by now, but the spies report he hasn't done so because he hasn’t felt as if he had earned it.
So their leadership was frail and to make things better, their army was only a fraction of the size of hers. Hooleus only has ten thousand knights who are all poorly armed, with most of them not even carrying weapons.
Evostila’s army consisted of nearly a hundred thousand knights, archers, and pegusus lancers, all of which were properly armed. Evostila was truly surprised her father hadn't already conquered these weaklings.
Perhaps she wasn't the man she idolized, he was clearly a weak man. The day she planned to begin her march to Hooleus she made her way to her father's bedroom. She sees him coughing and unable to move on his bed.
He sees her and despite his pain, he smiles when he sees her. She sternly stands by his bed and doesn't say anything for a few minutes. She then tells him that today she plans to finish his conquest and that by the end of the month, she will claim Hooleus.
Her father looked worried and tried to tell her not to do it, he even said she had no idea what she was getting herself into. Evostila told him to shut up, that he wasn’t in charge anymore because he was weak.
Her father refused to be silent even as blood came from his mouth. He said that if she attacked them she would get their entire army destroyed and their kingdom would be easily taken over. Evostila started laughing and calling him delusional.
Evostila told her father she once saw him as a great man, one she wanted to be like. So much so that she had hoped they would have conquered Hooleus together, she had even gone through the work of having the king assassinated years ago in preparation.
But because of his cowardice, he gave up his great mission and allowed part of their great land to be tainted by those in Hooleus. Her father seemed shocked and asked if she really had King Demetrius killed.
Evostila let out a twisted smile and said she had, and it wasn't the only king she was going to kill. Her father’s look of shock vanished, and he sat back and closed his eyes. He finally understood why she bothered to show up after months of him being bedridden.
She was here to truly claim her palace as empress, by killing a frail old man who was likely days away from dying anyway. He didn’t say another word to his daughter and simply waited for his end by her sword.
She pulled out her rapier and poked it through his shoulder. Her father groaned with pain, and she just laughed. Evostila stabbed him thirteen more times until the blood loss finally killed him. She wiped her blade off using his beard and went down to the throne room.
She held her official crowning ceremony right then and there, and as soon as she had her crown and armor on, she marched her way out of her castle through the town, and out the main gate, where her massive army was prepared to march.
With no other threats to her empire, she was able to take all one hundred thousand soldiers in her army to Hooleus. No one else was brave enough or even had the resources to take her castle while she was away, not after what her father had done to them.
So after giving what she considered the best speech in the history of conquest, she mounted her horse, and her army began its week-long march towards Hooleus. Evostila marched forward assured she would claim victory as her enemies had no idea she was coming.
That happened to be farther from the truth, as in the Hooleus, the prince and his mages were watching the empress and her army march thanks to the spell-peeping eyes. Prince Demetrios watched her closely as his advisors started to prepare strategies for him.
Demetrios looked at them and asked if they thought there was any way this could end peacefully without violence. They looked at each other and said they didn't think it was likely, but if he wanted to try he should be safe to do so.
Demetrios' sworn protector Wyrn suggested it was pointless, and that the prince should be prepared in case she broke their defenses. Demetrios looked down at his hands, he still wasn't ready to bear the crown, but when it came to his father's weapon the Holy sword Ipagam, he had no choice now.
After finishing up the battle preparations he went off to the sacred temple with Wyrn. He approached the podium and grabbed the handle of the sword. He pulled on the sword and a bright light filled the room.
When it died down, Demetrios was now clad in holy white armor, the same armor bestowed upon his father, the previous protector of the goddess’s holy land Hooleus. He turned towards Wyrn and promised to protect his home, no matter what.
A week passes by and Evostila and her army finally arrive at the walls that protect Hooleus. As her army approaches the wall to begin their takeover, Prince Demetrios in his bright white armor appears on the top of the wall and calls out to them to stop.
Evostila raises her hand and has her army stop. She looks up at Demetrios. He was about to warn them to turn back and not go through with this, but Evostila still had her hand up, and she suddenly thrust it forward, indicating to her army to attack the prince.
The archers began to fire and the first battalion of pegasus flyers started to throw their lances, all while the soldiers in the back loaded the siege weapons and began to fire. A majority of the attacks would have hit the prince directly, but all of them stopped in mid-air and fell to the ground.
Evostila raised her hand again, indicating to her army to stop so she could inspect. The prince, and the wall he was standing on were completely unharmed. Evostila had no idea how that was possible with all they just threw at him.
The Prince looked saddened, he knew she likely wouldn't leave without a fight, but his good nature wanted to give them the chance to go home without any violence, so he again spoke to them instead of retaliating.
He said that Evostila couldn’t beat them, and if she insisted on attacking again he’d rain down the full might of the kingdom of Hooleus bestowed upon them by the goddess. Evostila just looked at him and scoffed.
She wasn't backing down, no matter what cheap tricks he seemed to have. She drew her sword and pointed it at him. She effectively declared war on the prince and his kingdom and the final battle that would end a fifty-year conquest began.
