Orrick and her had just begun their tentative slowburn, still very much commissioner/smith, but Carmine has no friends and is a hermit so he's all she has atm. Bevel bounces back and forth between his bio parents, essentially they take him back when they please, and send him to Carmine when they don't want to deal. Carmine and Orrick were very accepting of his transition, his family was not, but he had gleaned enough jewelry skills from his parents (plus Carmine + Orricks expertise) and they turned a blind eye as he introduced himself as the forgotten son they had kept 'underwraps' basically they only like him when he gives them something. Eventually he does realize that Carmine and Orrick have acted as more parents to him than his actual parents, and decides the forge is his home. Carmine and Orricks' platonic parenting is more like Carmine = grunkle stan and burps at bevel/gives him a firm handshake because she's emotionally repressed while Orrick has ensured he has kept his fingers and is a bit more emotionally developed XD
