It really shows the underlying, unspoken stresses Walt is going through, in contrast with Jesse who thinks things are currently okay, but is also going through his own personal stresses. Overall really great, secretly deep episode.

2025-09-19 19:23:23 +0000 UTCI've read a lot about this episode and I think the fly is supposed to represent Walt's guilt and he can never really get rid of it. It haunts him. Whereas, Jesse comes in and is able to kill the fly, representing that he has dealt with/worked on his feelings of guilt. Personally, I think it also showcases Walt's very perfectionistic and, honestly, obsessive nature. Nothing, not even the smallest thing, can go wrong with whatever he's focused on/working on, even while that obsession can cause all kinds of larger things to go wrong around him (like his meth needs to be perfect but, meanwhile, his life is falling apart around him)

2025-09-18 22:22:55 +0000 UTCThe story behind this episode is the they were already way over budget for the season and needed one filler cheap episode desperately so they shot this all in the lab and made one of the most famous and hated/loved episodes, its slower for sure but the obsession with the fly is walts inner turmoils and we see his guilt coming out especially with janes death as he nearly confesssed. Slow but still awesome and neccesary episode imo, the rest of the show is an absloute masterpiece from here on out.

2025-09-16 22:47:49 +0000 UTCWalt trying to get rid that fly is a representation of that guilt he’s been carrying throughout the show and him trying to not think about all the chaos he unleashed with his family and his victims but at the end of the episode just like the fly the guilt will forever haunt him and eventually will catch up not only cause harm to him but those he cares for, that’s why when he says “it’s all contaminated” it’s his way just saying everything he’s done has made everyone around his life worse than before he started this self destructive path
