Y'all should check out Young Frankenstein with Gene Wilder. He wrote the script for that movie while on the set of this one.

To really appreciate Mel Brooks' movies, you must know a few facts and watch this video. Mel Brooks was Jewish, and jabbed the Germans every chance he got. Also, you need to know that Richard Prior was one of the writers, and he's the one who insisted they all say "N". Anyway, watch this short video and you'll understand it better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkj7ke6FZFo&t=590s

I prefer History of the World.

Fun story about Madeline Kahn, the actor that plays Lili von Stupp: Mel Brooks was auditioning her, and absolutely loved her for the role. Out of nowhere, he says, "I think you're great! Now lift up your dress." Understandably a little pissed, she shoots him a look and says, "Excuse me?!" Instantly, Mel Brooks realizes what he just said and turns white as a sheet, "No! Not like that! The character has to have great legs! I'm so sorry!" She ended up laughing in his face and they were great friends after that until the day she died.

+1 for Robin Hood

You have to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail next!

Mel Brooks is a comedy legend, but man his movies could NOT be made today. Fun fact, the director is also playing the Governor and that Native American in the flashback scene. Rest assured, everything in this movie is meant to be taken as a joke. If you're interested in checking out some... less intense movies he made, I'd recommend Robin Hood: Men in Tights or if you're familiar with Star Wars, he made a movie making fun of the first one called Spaceballs.
