ANOTHER GOAL! LENS UPDATE!

Hey Guys! WOW! Thank you guys so much. LIKE WTF!? Just stop, I am honestly not worthy... From the bottom of my heart, you guys are exceptional I hope you feel as such! So I unboxed my lens and did some comparison shots and video. I even did a mini FSF for you guys for tomorrow! So get excited! BUT... I don't really see much of a difference, and it's honestly heartbreaking. I found a beauty YouTuber whose look I adored, and that's where o first decided I want this lens. It was pretty much unanimous on the internet that a kit lens for a Canon Rebel body is shit. The lens feels super heavy duty, and the image stabilization IS better (get it? IS?) but I barely ever take it off tripod. It focuses faster, but it is CONSTANTLY trying to refocus. My old lens did that once in a while and people hated it, so I am sure people will hate this more. The focus motor sounds so cute and high tech, though. The minimum f/ on my new lens is 4. I had no idea that to get the blurry background effect I needed lowest f/ possible, which is one of the things I want. To get the blur effect I need to shoot in manual, which means no putting something close to the lens and having it autofocus. This is extremely important to me for unboxings and Friday Night Mail. There is a newer lens with slightly worse reviews for $100 less that has an f/ of 2.8 or something. Maybe I will exchange it? I also bought an ND4 filter so I can raise my ISO and lower my f/ enough for the blurry background (I'm such a pro now, jeez!) but what of my unboxings? When I shoot in auto it just constantly refocuses. Probably because my background is so busy. But... It's not an option to me to just shoot on a plain background. Even if I wanted to right now. The image quality didn't seem to improve at all. So now I am left wondering, am I being inhibited by my camera body like a few people have said? Is it really that bad? Even if I wanted to upgrade is have to wait until next month. We reached so many goals this month, but I don't even have that money yet, and I can't afford a laptop (which would be a great alternative to a tiny viewfinder when shooting, so I can actually see what's up,) a camera body, and a lens, all items over $1000. The poster giveaway is a priority as well, so I can give back to you guys. So... That's my plight right now for anyone who wanted to read. TL;DR - I love how professional my new lens is, I love how fast it focuses and the image stabilization, but I can't shoot in auto without too much refocusing, and the quality didn't really improve as far as I can see. I don't know if I should return it and try another, or wait until I get my lens filter and settle for manual only shooting, which is much more work. Or if my camera body is limiting me and I should get the new one ASAP. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT! I feel like I let you guys down because I didn't just insanely upgrade my quality overnight. It's a process, I guess. Feel free to give some advice, but I think this is something where only I know what I want, and every little detail of the problem, and o have to figure it out on my own... Love you! More Early Access in a bit! Tara

Awwwzies!!!~ Thank You so much for the informative and thoughtful update, Tara!~ I love Your pun!~ ^_^ <3 I absolutely adore wordplay!~ xP My first job was a paid Summer Internship position at a media institute. So, I know a little bit about tech things, but my knowledge pool is very rudimentary as it relates to technology, I think. Anyway, I am so glad that You have Your new lens that You wanted, Tara!!!~ ^_^ <3 Have a wonderfully lovely night!~ ^_^ <3

I can send you a short pdf from my Intro to Digital Photography class if you want it. I'd say play around a little; don't swap it out yet.

That "blurry" background, it's Depth of Field (DoF). That is always my toughest thing. I love a shallow DoF, but can never really get it. The keys to DoF are: 1) Large Aperature (small f stop) 2) long focal length lens (e.g. 180 mm as opposed to 35 mm) 3) distance to object - closer is what you want. There are online DoF calculators (<a href="http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html)</a> that can help you figure things out. If you want clarity close to cam AND you, but the Capt Am shield and other stuff blurry, you will want yourself to be at the far limit. And, you'll probably need to set in on manual, otherwise the focus point will keep shift, modifying you DoF.

Also, thank you! <3

I agree, but these people usually remove their pledge within a day. I just ban people who keep pledging and unpledging. Patreon actually invited me to the beta for instant payment, but I am deciding not to ddo it because I won't be able to keep track of the people who I need to reward if it's done randomly throughout the month. Also, people who pledge on the 29th will be charged their whole pledge, then again on the 1st. Some people can't budget that in, and that's not fair to them.

Tara Babcock

It sucsk, because I don't have the space in my place to get the crop I'd like at certain distances. >.<

Tara Babcock

I hate being the one to say this but: a number of the new pledges won't happen, I've seen this happen with a number of Patreon creators. People will sign up for the goods then leave before paying up, it's the rudest damn thing ever. Though a good number of them will be legit. Congrats on your success, you've certainly earned it

It has nothing to do with worth... Hard work does pay off... That is all there is to it.

Timur Sultanov

I'll always support you!!

Pace yourself Tara, no need to rush into things, we know that you have a lot on your plate and we're very grateful that you're doing so much for us and don't stress about anything you'll figure something out sooner or later.

I don't recomend going too low on the focal length I went with the 85mm f1.8 fixed length the absolute minimum I would ever go for portrait photography is 70mm. That said for shooting video the AF has to be perfect or you stay very very still.

Alejandro Carvajal

Ahh I see. Well IMO the quality of your videos are already terrific!! ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Its_Gladius

I really don't feel exceptional right now, I feel the opposite. I Hope you find the quality you are happy with and no worries. Sometimes better things takes time but it will be worth it in the end. We will cheer you on until you find the sweet spot!

Nathan Mark Chatterton

As stated, there will be mini fan services between, each Friday if I can. My workload is insane, and sometimes that won't be possible.

Tara Babcock

In this apartment I can't do fixed lenses. >.<

Tara Babcock

Only advice (suggestions) is can we make fan service Friday every Friday

Jovani luna

Just take Your time and You will figure things out. ๐Ÿ‘โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’‹ patience my Padawan Mistress, patience. I mean if possible of course, if You like and so. You decide for patience or not, obviously. โค๏ธ

Look into the 50mm f1.4, it's not a L series lens but it'll give you that blurry background you're looking for. Or the 35mm f1.4 :)

Its_Gladius

Love you too! Keep being awesome, girl!

Obie The Creator

Ok. I am sure you have plenty of Photographers you have worked with that can help you out. The pixel quality, video quality, and low light ISO makes a difference.

Craig Curlee

I love you! :)

Tara Babcock

I already sent you a message saying this, but it bears repeating here...this is the perfect example of a positive coming out of a negative. From getting that strike on your vlog channel, so much has skyrocketed forward for you that it's amazing and legitimately an honor to be here and see it happen first hand! When you put the work in and don't accept defeat, even when it's staring you in the face, there's nothing that can hold you down or hold you back. You're honestly becoming a real inspiration for me to get off of my ass and do the things I've wanted to do with my own channel. So happy for you, Tara...and awesome job fellow patrons! #TEAMTARA

Obie The Creator

Thanks, babe! :) Your support means a lot.

Tara Babcock

I have a DSLR! What improves with a better camera body, anyway?

Tara Babcock

That lens will SO much better on a DSLR camera. Can you rent a camera to see? Also. You can set the lens to infinity mode in manual and it should stop the autofocus? I wish I could TALK with you about this!

Craig Curlee

Don't worry, we understand and love you!

Sheridan Hall

Love you! It may be the camera body. That lense did wonders for my dad, (he really loves cameras idk he is a cop so it's clearly not for the same purpose hah) but he also has a different camera body, I believe it's the one you were looking to purchase? Either way, we all understand amazing quality jumps overnight are mainly impossible. We love you <3
