STEVEN UNIVERSE: FUTURE Episode 8 "Why So Blue" Full Length Reaction

I kind of do like the idea of finding alternative ways for lapis Gems to express those natural terraforming passions and abilities. Like… perhaps there’s planets that could be re-terraformed into habitable planets using their powers. Or make them a lil’ terraforming sandbox somewhere, or something- a small space where utilization of those powers is allowed and encouraged. This kinda reminds me of studies I’ve read about urban graffiti, which- personally speaking, I never minded anyways- but in any case, said study showed that when the city worked alongside graffiti artists to provide them dedicated, approved spaces for them to express themselves instead of just banning it, the rate of graffiti elsewhere went down overall. I feel like the same idea could be applied for some of these Gems with very specific power sets.

Y'know.... this episode got me thinking a lot..... what happens when an individual genuinely wants to be a part of the society they live in but they got tastes and tendencies that are not accepted by it? (if you haven't watched My Hero Academia and you're interested in watching it some day then skip the next Paragraph Mikey). This is a moral question i also had in the anime My Hero Academia, there's a character there who wants genuine connections with people and to live happily in society... but they can't be accepted because the way they express their love is by hurting people. What is the right thing to do in this situation? your idea is definetely interesting Mikey.... providing these Lapis Lazulis a more innocent way to perform their hobbies (i like that idea). Or Steven can get lucky and one of those Lapis can come around and explore other options like in the end. But im still left thinking about the other Lapis who didn't come around at the end.... what is she gonna do now? the episode tries to frame her as being more mean or ill-spirited than the other one.... indirectly telling us that we shouldn't feel bad for her......... but i don't know. If that Lapis is simply not interested in exploring other options then..... is she supposed to live miserably for the rest of her existence? like... obviously terraforming planets that already have sentient life in them is wrong but.... i don't think Steven and (our) Lapis should give up on her, they should still work to find a better solution.... cuz if they don't then that Lapis is just going to live a meaningless eternity.

I enjoy this episode’s furthering of the idea that there will probably always be Gems who are resistant to the changes of Era 3, or even antagonistic to them- and yet, with time and patience, some may choose to come around. Not everyone, but some. It feels like a much needed and very realistic footnote to the massive paradigm shift Gemkind saw at the end of the OG series, the impacts of which never had time to be fully explored back then. I always appreciate a Lapis song, as well! The other silly thing that has me very “eeee” with this episode is that this is by far the biggest shield Steven has ever created to this point, and— having rewatched some of the earlier episodes recently— it’s so wild coming back to eps like these and seeing him summon one that massive so effortlessly. ;w;
