That song literally makes me cry every single time. Even if I listen to it back to back. I cried watching someone else react to it only a few days ago, and that didn't make me cry any less today. This is the episode I always wait for whenever I start watching someone react to this show.

Here's a little fun fact, the only reason they came up with this insane backstory between Marceline and Simon like this by pulling out a bunch of names out of a hat who's hasn't really interacted with each other before. Then they remembered the joke they made where Ice King sang his cover of Fries in Holly Jolly Secrets Part 2 and decided to use that as a basis for this episode with that lol Adventure Time is very much like a massive DnD session, it made up a lot of its stories as it went along- and it's really damn good at doing so

If the episode "Holy Jolly Secrets Part 2" was the big Shock Reveal of Simon Petrikov..... then "I Remember You" is when we see with clarify the True Tragedy and Sadness of his situation, especially because we are seeing it from the perspective of someone who knew and loved him very much. Those allegories of Dementia and Alzheimer now hit really hard, because now they actually make much more thematic sense. Also... this was a very clever reveal as well... we were 4 Full Seasons into the show already... and Ice King and Marceline had never been even in proximity to one another up until this point, despite both being very central characters (and now we know why). And of course this also explains why Hambo (Marceline's Teddy Bear) was so goddamn important to her. Im actually surprised that this episode never even got nominated to any important Awards of Animation.... like the Annie or the Emmy Awards. Which is VERY strange considering that this is in fact the Third Highest-rated episode of the show (at least that's what my Microsoft Copilot AI says).
