Ahh, this is a huge comfort episode for me! It’s low stakes and feel-good, and sometimes that’s simply what I need in life. I also really enjoy the retro “found footage” vibe of it with Steven recording- I thought this was a fun and creative way to frame a band episode. Additionally, I just appreciate how many of the smaller character development plot lines are either outright continued or mentioned in this one. It really is a big episode for the human side of Steven’s world. You have… a continuation of Sadie’s journey towards expressing her truest self through music, a continuing discussion about that s2 conflict between her and her overbearing mother, you have Steven getting to be their roadie, as he overtly mentioned dreaming of doing back in a s3 episode, you have a brief mention of the fact that Buck learned guitar from Greg in the first place at the conclusion of his s1 focus episode, and… you also get a shining moment for Greg, who— even if he never got to live out his OWN dreams of being a rockstar as a young adult, is now helping support these late teens in achieving THEIR dreams as their manager. I just love how full-circle that is for him. He had an absolutely shitty manager, but now he can learn from that guy’s mistakes and be a Wonderful manager to Sadie Killer and the Suspects. I bet that’s really fulfilling for him. And yeah, I absolutely agree with a comment you made during this, re: Sadie using this band as a healthy outlet for some of her jumbled emotions about losing Lars. I bet she poured some of that into the lyrics, too… I mean, “Look at me and I’ll appear/Why can’t you see that I’m right here?” definitely feels like it could be about a relationship, huh? I don’t think she’s the only one using this band as an outlet from present problems, though- I think it’s also been a lovely outlet for Steven, who may not be IN the actual band right now, but is still spending a lot of time helping them with their performances. Good for him. Everyone needs a distraction.

2024-08-14 19:19:00 +0000 UTCNope, we haven’t seen Sunshine Justice in the show before. And as far as I know Joan Jett hasn’t voice acted in Steven Universe before either. The only 2 other animated shows she has had a role in are “Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts” (which by the way another really good show) and “Duncanville” (which is just another Family Guy-Wannabe).
