My favorite reoccurring thing from peridot is how she still says the “Wow, thanks” phrase that Steven taught her when she first joined the group.

2024-08-02 00:43:07 +0000 UTCThere’s a recurring joke in the fandom that came from this ep of “she took the whole barn in the divorce.” I absolutely understand where Lapis is coming from in wanting to run away, given her tumultuous past, but yikes girl… you gotta take every physical scrap of the life Peridot built here, too? Big oofies. You really do get a huge amount of info on what the status quo looked like with Peridot and Lapis from this singular ep, which I find interesting to extrapolate on. Peridot says she was constantly bending over backwards to make her feel better. She says there’s a lot of things she Wants to say, but that she knows they’d make Lapis upset so she doesn’t open up about them. While it definitely seems from their other appearances that they genuinely did start to build a friendly rapport, there’s just so much lingering baggage lurking there in the background that neither feels confident enough to address yet. One can only hope that in their separation here, they may be able to work through some of that. The return of Peridot to the bathroom here hits hard- because wow, she’s grown SO much in the time since she was trapped in there as the Crystal Gems’ prisoner. Everything has changed since then. She is not the same Gem who stood there months and months earlier, and while there’s probably a comfort in that I think this realization also hurts for her.
