Ooooh yeah this episode really does bring up a fascinating ethical question about whether a human in captivity who doesn’t understand that they’re in captivity and has everything they need would be better off there, or freed. I like that Greg pokes into this thread a bit with his “they have everything they need and they never have to worry about anything” comment. Oh my god Steven’s got one hell of a right hook, though. I think it’s sometimes really easy to forget how powerful this kid is since he’s usually only using those powers against other equally powerful Gems (and even then, rarely- since he’s a far more defensive fighter than otherwise), but holy heck! His poor dad just flew across the clearing lol. I love Greg’s line after that when Steven asks if he should try again… “there won’t be anything left to rescue if you do-!” Very funny ahahah.

2024-06-11 21:29:13 +0000 UTCYou know... it's true that all of these humans are living in captivity... but Greg is right as well... they are happy there, they don't even know what "bad" or "hurt" means. Free will is a wonderful thing but... i don't know if we can really make the call of robbing them of their perfect reality. Way-Six and Jay-Ten are really adorable characters, their attachment to Greg was very cute and hilarious. Notice how all of these humans are (in terms of the art style) depicted as very physically attractive, healthy and Fit... even the one elderly woman looked very healthy too. if i had to make a guess i would say that this is the actual objective of "the choosening" but that was never confirmed nor denied by the Crewuniverse. the story that Jay-Ten told about a Gem coming through the Door once when someone got Hurt is very interesting, because thanks to Steven punching Greg we know that physical injuries are likely not gonna make the Amethysts enter through the door, it was only when the Humans got hurt EMOTIONALLY that the Amethysts started arriving. So that creates the question of.... what exactly made their ancestor got hurt emotionally for the Gems to come in?. Another really adorable detail of this episode is that when the Amethysts arrived at the scene after the humans got hurt... they weren't being rough with them aside from carrying them around....... instead they were being reasonable and trying to comfort them. This scene really sells the fact that the humans are not really being mistreated in this place (aside from maybe Blue Agate), The Soldiers in charge of them seem to genuinely care about their well being.... which also gives more layers of complexity to Homeworld society, which i personally love.
