The thing about Luffy is that despite him being childish and naive most of the time, he's quite wise as well, he knows how to read people and tell them what NEED to hear at the times they're down, he knows how to make them open their hearts, you'll see it many times down the line with the crew.

2024-05-24 00:03:28 +0000 UTCMikey... i know this sounds and looks bad.... but Vivi really needed that punch, Luffy is basically giving her a reality check, one that she was not accepting with just words. After all the adventuring they had together, Luffy already sees her as a part of the group, and it annoys him that she still wants to bear all the burdens of hardship by herself, it annoys him that she still believes that she's the only person allowed to die in this conflict... because that's where Vivi's mindset was before this squable happened. Also... Vivi was the one who started the fight, Luffy was just sitting and calmly stating the facts... then Vivi got mad because of it and hit him first, so it's only right that Luffy punched her back. Luffy doesn't care about gender or race (just like Scritoon said) so he will retaliate to anyone no matter what if he deems it necessary. If anything... Luffy acting this way it's not only a prove of his high emotional intelligence..... but also a prove that he considers Vivi a true friend and his equal. It's no wonder why this moment reminded you of the Luffy and Nami moment from Arlong Park..... it's because Vivi's internal conflict is in essence very similar to Nami's back then. They both needed to realize that they're not alone and that they can rely on others even with the extremely heavy burdens.... because that's what True Friends do.
