This is a calmer and quieter episode compared to the more fantasy and sci fi heavy plots, but it’s just as lovingly crafted a story as all the others- I really like the way it showcases Steven’s deep care and understanding for everyone in his town… the only way him being cast as “Zoltron” works is BECAUSE he knows them all so well, and is able to provide them genuinely useful insight as a third party observer. But of course, he doesn’t know everyone. And so try as he may, he is incapable of giving fruitful responses to many of Mr. Frowny’s questions- not even with the power of future vision. But even if he doesn’t understand the full picture, his genuine empathy for everyone involved is commendable— hell, it even led him to say something (“Did he even know he was making you sad?”) that pushed them into a better future he couldn’t see with his little crumb of Garnet’s power. Very much enjoy this one. I love these character development episodes a lot.
