The video for the show is blurred and muted because of copyright, and I’m not trying to get in trouble. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. I will forever love the fact that Amethyst's "disfunction" is something completely tangible in the show and not something that can be overcome... like... no matter how hard she tries she will never be as good at some things like Jasper is, because she is physically defined by the way she was born. And i love it because that's exactly how real life works... society loves to tell everyone that "you can be anything you wanna be" but in a lot of cases that is simlply not true, everyone has different strenghs and weaknesses and some people will always be better than you in some fields. But accepting your shortcomings and learnings how to work with them is the first step towards a fulfilling life... that's the real message of this episode... which is why i love it so much.

2024-04-26 18:06:40 +0000 UTCThis one is always a fun watch to me because it's like... so damn sibling-core of the two of them. While I do think our main three Gems generally defy traditional familial roles, often filling multiple at once in rearing Steven, Amethyst always struck me as very older sister coded in how she interacts with him a lot of the time. Like Steven she's a lot younger than the other two and is still doing an awful lot of self exploration. They've got a ton in common... they share many of the same hobbies, like a lot of the same foods, both have that inclination to try and bury their own feelings when they're having a rough time, and both are living up to an impossible standard they feel others around them are silently thrusting on them. So the fact that all this boils over into them having a sparring match to see which one of them is "the worst Crystal Gem" is very apt- this feels like dumb beef I would've had with my own sibling as a kid, ahah. Steven's spiky bubble is such a cool little addition to his bubble ability! There really is a lot that could be done with that, seeing as it can grip to surfaces. Good for him, he's getting more confident with his powers every episode it seems. I like the little knowledge addition this ep brings about him doing weekly training with Pearl- it always made sense to me that he'd have some sorta training sesh on the regular, but we've just never seen it until now, I guess.
