I'm not sure if I'm right, or if it's just a coincidence, but I've seen pictures of the original series set in color. The living room was garishly pink just like this, because the bright pink filmed best in black-and-white to show as deep gothic blacks and greys. When I saw this cottage interior for the first time, I was struck by how similar it was.
