---

Xin Xianying, the Daughter of Xin Pi, whose Descendants became the core Foundations of the Jin Dynasty throughout the entirety of its turbulent existence, during a Chaos arguably even worse than the fabled Three Kingdoms. A Lady known for her Wise Advice and Foresight, saving her Kingdom and her Family during various crises. From one to Sima Yi during Zhuge Liang's Campaigns in the Wuzhang Plains, one to her brother during the Incident of Gaoping Tombs, as well as one to her son on the cusp of Zhong Hui's rebellion.

And yet, in one timeline, those well-accomplished wisplays of wisdom simply... doesn't exist. That would come as a shock to anyone, but one may wonder… if it’s just her advancing age on a long-lasting lifespan by Three Kingdoms standard, then why has nobody seen her since? What happened to her? Where is she this whole time? She disappeared from the Earth along with her father's soul leaving his body, without a trace, and everyone is bewildered by such things happening.

And yet, nobody, not even someone as high as the Emperor, nor as close as her brother knows where she went. Did she secretly committed suicide like so many women who despaired in these times? Did she live in seclusion away from everyone's eyes, not wanting to be found? Did she run away to the so-called Daqin, the massive Empire on the other side of the world, known to the Historians as the Roman Empire. And yet, while aspects of all three are true in some way, the real answer turned out to be… even stranger…

The truth extended beyond public comprehension. Around 235 AD, Xin Xianying’s father, Xin Pi, had passed away. While she tried to smile through her pain as usual, as days went on, his death turned to affecting her far worse than she thought. It was clear that she couldn't bear the grief anymore. It was her father who let her read books and study, leading her to be an educated lady. Such things are very much an exception to the female kind in her time, and she always thanked her father for giving her the opportunity. She owed much of her wisdom to him, and the devastation of her loss created a void that enveloped Xianying's world, propelling her towards a desire to vanish from the public stage.

In her plea for respite, Xianying approached both the Emperor of Wei, Cao Rui, and who is currently the Grand Commandant, Sima Yi, seeking permission to retire. Sima Yi, having owed Xianying and her father for holding him back from Zhuge Liang’s taunts, were surprised by her decision. And while he wished to continue making use of her talent of wisdom for the Kingdom or even reunifying China, he eventually reluctantly agreed to let her go.

And yet, even in a peaceful retirement, in Xianying's heart, it was evident that without her father, even with the inevitability of his aging, she couldn't endure the complexities of her life any longer. A world ravaged by continuous conflicts for the past 50 years. A world that she chose to get involved in, to support her father ever since his family was massacred by Yuan Shang and Shen Pei.

And yet, Zhuge Liang’s death marked a change of an Era to something she didn't like. Epic Battles gives a way to more Political Intrigues. What was once an Era filled with Famed Warriors and Tacticians making their ideals known turned into one corrupted by meaningless Skirmishes and
Traitorous Backstabbing. Thus she couldn't bear to be a part of it.

Despite already choosing to hang her halberd at the wall, in reality, it wasn’t enough for her to move on. Therefore, she had chosen to fade into obscurity even further, disappearing without a trace into the night. And the only one who saw her prior is her brother, Xin Chang. The one that she entrusted the legacy of the Xin family with, can only stare blankly to an opened window to the beyond.

- - -

As Xianying ventured into the outskirts, clad in what she used to bring to battle, perhaps to remember the happier days for one last time. And yet, she chose not to take her halberd despite the possibility of Bandits and Giant Beasts going after her vulnerable state. The Cloak that is currently concealing her body, is the perfect metaphor for the weight of uncertainty hung in the air. Deep down though, she is losing care towards such dangers towards her own ‘safety’.

Her destination remained unknown, yet an echo from the memories of an old childhood tale resurfaced in her mind. The tale spoke of a once-magical forest that had lost its enchantment, a place where mystique had faded away. Nobody knows where this forest is, and the idea that it was so close to a Capital such as Luoyang sounds outright ludicrous

Driven by an inexplicable force, however, Xianying felt an unspoken call pulling her towards a specific direction. Hesitation danced in her steps, a fleeting doubt that lingered in the periphery of her thoughts. Yet, without conscious realization, her feet continued to carry her forward.

As night fell and the full moon ascended, Xianying found herself lost in the moon's glow. "It’s Beautiful," she whispered, her gaze fixated on the bright sphere. There was an inexplicable allure to the moon on this particular night. It’s a profound beauty that holds her in a trance, letting it guide her to where she needs to go.

Time slipped away unnoticed as Xin walked beneath the moonlight, her eyes locked onto the luminous orb. It was as if the moon had cast a spell upon her, weaving a moment of tranquility amidst the uncertainty that she felt not long ago. Gradually, the realization struck her – she now stood in a clearing, surrounded by the trees of the forest, their towering forms, veiled in the moonlight, piercing the Heavens above.

"Where am I?" Opening her cloak, Xianying pondered aloud, her eyes scanning the unfamiliar surroundings. Certain Stars in the sky blinked together, which she failed to notice. The silence was interrupted by the subtle snap of a branch, prompting her to turn and face a wolf with fur as white as the moonlight reflecting the snowy heights of the world. Startled at first, Xianying hesitated, but the wolf remained motionless, its gaze fixed upon her.

Xianying, breaking the silence, asked the lupine creature, "What are you doing here?" To her astonishment, the wolf responded not in growls or howls, but with words. "I am the Wooden Wolf, of the White Tiger of the West’s Legs. My Mansion is blessed with Wisdom such as you, but no need to ask any questions about myself. You should know why I am here. Your reason to live is gone, yet also unwilling to cast away your life somehow. As I know what you sought – a desire to distance yourself from civilization, to find where you truly belonged, to surrender you and your belongings back to the simplicity of nature… to shed your humanity".

Surprised by the revelation, Xianying widened her eyes and made some startled steps backwards. But then she stopped and her gaze fell to the ground. Clenching her hands, she nodded in acknowledgment. "Yes," she admitted. “I cannot deny it any longer… it was all true. And I’m serious about this”

The wolf, sensing Xianying's lack of hesitation, smiled in approval. He bowed down his head, inviting her to place her hand upon it. Slowly, she approached, her hand hovering above the lupine creature. As her hand made contact, the moon's rays shone with brightness that can rival the Sun. The Rays were refracted by the Constellations onto the back of her hand. Xianying's eyes widened, seeing that she was absorbing the wolf into her.

In the moment that followed, a brilliant flash of light enveloped her, temporarily blinding her senses. Confusion clouded her vision, searching for the Wolf, but he was nowhere to be found. She was about to call out to him, but instead, a strange tingling sensation surged through her body, prompting a soft moan breathed from her mouth, blown into the cold night, "Aah..."

A profound spark shines within her, and the familiarity of human clothing begins to feel restricting. A sensation of constraint clung to her, urging her to shed the layers that bound her humanity. The Wolf may not be here anymore, but she feels his tugging gradually even harder. The very fabric that once defined her now felt incongruent. She started to feel imprisoned by her own humanity. A need grew on her, she felt like if she didn't shed her human clothing she wouldn't be able to truly change and be free.

With soft breaths, Xianying began to shed the pieces of armor and the layers of her clothing. First, was her cloak, thrown away and littered. Why would she bring it with her to begin with? It was nothing more than a deadweight. Then, it was her beloved jacket, folded away and gently rested with respect. She would miss that part of her but she had to let it go. The Metal Plates that protected her are next, clattering at the ground, making melodious ringing. Their job is done; she can protect herself with her own strength. She’d happily kicked away her boots once she took steps out of them. And lastly, her Modesty, severed from her skin and let the Wind take it back to the Earth when it feels like it. She shouldn't be hiding behind smiles anymore if she wants to be her true self.

She had to take off her accessories and what little jewelry that she might have, one by one, unleashing her hair to flow smoothly without the need of any ribbon to tie her down. Some are gifts from her father, but she cannot bring even those with her. Nothing is to be spared, no exceptions. Finally, her underwear are discarded, unveiling her young human form to the moonlit forest. Her body, once confined by the trappings of civilization, stood exposed. Vulnerable to all kinds of pain, yet resolute to embrace the Unknown. Even though deep down, she should figure out what she’d ended up being.

Meanwhile, with each fabric sliding off her skin, beads of sweat formed on her forehead, tracing a path down to her modest-sized breasts. Taking a one last look at her bare human form, she looked around for a non-existent source in her core. The air around her seemed to pulsate with heat, and her trained physique responded with a gradual swell of muscles, "What is happening... It feels... So... Weird," she muttered, her voice tinged with a mixture of confusion and discomfort.

A searing sensation enveloped her mouth, and her teeth seemed to elongate into inhuman lengths. Xianying's hands instinctively reached for her mouth, confirming the sharp points that had replaced her once-human teeth. As her hands moved away, a peculiar tingling sensation drew her attention to her palms. With widened eyes, she witnessed the palms of her hands stretching, accompanied by loud pops and cracks.

Despite the grotesque contortions her body underwent, an unusual calmness pervaded Xianying's mind. It was as if, amidst the physical turmoil, she felt that this was a Destiny meant to unfold. A way for her wish to be granted, for her grievances to be washed away.

As the transformation intensified, Xianying's hands became rigid, nails morphing into sharp and curvy claws resembling those of a beast. A soft gasp escaped her lips as her transforming hands instinctively reached for her ears. The claws grasping once-human ears. Now stretched upwards, it’s becoming pointy and attuned to the distant sounds of the forest. The symphony of nature became clearer, the rustling of the leaves soothes any spasms of resistance, distant animal calls echoing in her ears, and the rich tapestry of scents unfolded for her yet-unchanged nose to smell.

A sharp sensation made her double over. Her now clawed hands grasped her chest with its forming pads, as more pops and cracks resonated through her changing form. Giving her muscles that aren't grotesquely bulk like various Generals but a lithe one that complement her slender figure perfectly.

Xianying's eyes flickered downward, witnessing the emergence of strands of fur on her arms. They're brown not just like her hair’s, but also in the color guiding her to be one with the surrounding trees. A trail of lighter fur adorned the space between her breasts, cascading down to her stomach. Despite the pain, her gaze held a sense of acceptance, as if embracing the metamorphosis.

"Aah... Ah... it's... Amazing...!" Xianying's voice carried a mixture of awe and pleasure as she caressed the rapidly growing fur on her arms, spreading down from her hands and to her back.

Groans of pain echoed through the night as her back crunched, and her spine underwent a profound change. The anticipation of something extraordinary pulsed in the air as her spine pushed against her skin, the base outgrowing the limits of her flesh.

"Angh!... Ah… I... I know what this is!" Xianying moaned, a realization dawning upon her as her tailbone formed. It was naked at first, with its mere sight mesmerized her in wonder to the point of hypnotizing. The extending appendage began to curl, fur slowly sprouting into this newly born limb. Each pop accompanied a sensation of pleasure that rippled through her body. This is it, this is the proof of her new life. Her rebirth, to be released from her human prison.

Her feet celebrated by enthusiastically following its new brethren into curling itself, digging the growing claws into the soft ground beneath out of pleasure. Though instead joining her other toes, all four of her thumbs chose to shrink back into dewclaws. Their job to grip at things like a human would be over, and they can retire in peace also.

Her posture shifted with her shoulders relocating, her dexterity had been bartered with lithe muscle. What were once hands and feet now resembled the paws of a quadruple animal. The realization dawned upon Xianying that standing on two feet was no longer an option. Her feet continue to stretch and tremble, straining her balance even further. The crouching back and the gravity nudging her to push forward and downward, and she's more than glad to oblige.

In contrast to her usual grace, her descent back to the earth is swift and firm. Instead of turning her into a fallen timber, her gleaming claws planted on the ground, rooting herself to stand proudly on All-Fours of her new feet. Her neck, meanwhile, guides her to face her new life ahead instead of continuing to look down and pretend everything was fine. The Bark of her neck thickens by each additional resolve, revealing an excited smile forming in her face.

"Nnggh!! Aaahh… Go on… I want to be complete… I need to be able to do anything… Please… Take me there!" She groaned as her chest arched, the fur racing to cover it. Her ribs began to barrel out while her breast began to be absorbed to feed her new lungs. The once-feminine contours sculpted into the robust form of a wolf's chest.

Her hips then quickly follow suit. They began compacting her legs, immensely increasing its strength at the cost of her shape. Her pelvis flattened and her knees lifted off, leaving only her feets needed to support her without any assistance.

Her innards are then filled into a more cylindrical shape, stretching her hourglass waist into an abdomen filled with strong muscles. The act gave her a relieved groan as if she had finished a training session.

Once her new torso had been completed at last, her tail grew long. Fur catching up to it at a mesmerizing speed. Xianying looked back, a smile gracing her features as she admired the fully grown wolf tail, now wagging with a sense of joy. Helped caressing her new hips gently in place of her forelegs.

Xianying softly gasped as she felt something behind her contracted. The human within her wouldn't rather mention what it is, but she won't deny how much she enjoys the tingling sensation. While her tail is the evidence, then what she experienced right now is the warranty. Her gentle, yet deepening moans are the only language she should respond to the Send-off Massage towards her Journey.

Distracted by the pleasure and everything else, Xianying only just realized that her ears had sneakily, yet proudly ascended to the top of her head, becoming pointy and long. Her lower legs, once human, were now fully covered in fur that extended over her feet.

Observing her transformed body, she realized that her silken skin was no longer visible, covered by instead a velvety material. She may have abandoned her warm garments an eternity ago, but these fur feel so much better. Only her face is mostly unchanged, the last remnants of her human self that had all but faded away.

A twinge of fear lingered within her former self, yet a resolute acceptance filled her being. She isn't satisfied enough with this form, it cannot be left there half-finished. This Change, however daunting, felt like an inevitable destiny she was meant to be and willing to embrace. After all, Fate is Preordained, but Destiny is what you Choose to be.

As if in cue, waiting for her readiness, a powerful pressure enveloped her face, compelling her to shut her eyes tight. Her nose, having inhaled everything she needed to know about this forest, had finally started to adapt and turn moisty. Her mouth widened and unsealed with increasingly canine yelps accompanied by the sound of cracks as her muzzle formed. Her lips also began to blackened while the rest of her teeth followed her Canines to become a set of ferocious fangs. Her vocal cords are also altered within her mouth, but at this point, she has no need for it anymore. She’ll find her own ways to voice her feelings.

Fur gently tickled her cheeks as her head transformed into that of a wolf. Miraculously however, the singular strands crowning her head still proudly showed that she’ll remain true to herself from now on. While her skull is squeezed forward, what’s on top if it didn’t simply disappear. Instead, Long Locks of Hair quickly resewn into Fur, yet it kept the same length as a glimmering reminder of who she was. Slowly, the last traces of the young lady vanished, and in their place, the keen, primal eyes of a wolf opened. While her orb’s colors remained unchanged, it felt sharper and glowing brighter than ever before.

The newly transformed wolf, now fully embracing her wild self, took in her surroundings with exhausted panting, yet accompanied relieved breaths. It appeared that the transformation had reached its conclusion. Despite her desires however, she’s glad that the Wits and Identity that she owned weren't completely erased, only the grievances that she buried deep are now purified, relieving her from her now meaningless woes. She’s now free to enjoy her newfound life. And yet, a peculiar urge stirred within her as her gaze fixated on the luminous full moon above.

Hesitation lingered for a moment, but an irresistible force compelled her. She wanted to thank whoever blessed her with this new life, but before she realized that she can express simply by her thoughts, she realized how highly disrespectful that would be. So instead, she gave into the force that blessed her with this form. With a jaw that opened tentatively at first, the need to express her connection to the Moon overcame any doubt. In a harmonious primal need, a heartfelt howl resonated through the moonlit forest.

"Aawwrooooooo!!!" The howl, filled with a sense of freedom and acceptance, reverberated through the night—a wolf's declaration to the moon, sealing the destiny Xianying had come to embrace. The One who donated her earthly belongings back to Mother Earth, including her own humanity.

In her newly embraced wolf form, Xianying surveyed the surroundings before breaking into a swift run, excited to learn everything surrounding her new life. The wind caressed her fur, and an exhilarating sense of relief and boundless energy surged through her, banishing any lingering concerns left within her core. She feels so much stronger than before, she could do anything to her heart’s content, without any human norm to restrain her.

For the first time, she reveled in the pure joy of this form, reveling in the freedom it granted. The night unfolded with playful abandon. Xin Xianying, took a new Lupine form, and began her journey into a new life. She had merged herself to be a part of this Forest, leaving traces of her old identity behind without any more doubts.

However, Destiny had a different idea, it’s not that straightforward. Hours later as dawn approached and the first rays of sunlight touched her fur, a sudden lava of discomfort poured over her. Xianying winced, feeling an inexplicable paralysis gripping her. Every pores in between her fur felt like they're stabbed by myriad needles.

Panting heavily, her paws twitched, shrinking back into much smaller hands and feet, regrowing her thumbs also. Standing became a challenge as her tail receded into her body, damaging her delicate stance.

Fur began to fall away, making her whine softly, she struggled to maintain balance as her paws turned back. The sharpness of her teeth diminished, growls increasing in frequency. Her once elongated muzzle gradually shortened, and her pointed ears rounded.

Xianying's rougher breaths turned the softer, agitated rhythm of a young woman's. With one last battle cry that sucks the air out of her lungs, her chest regaining its ladylike contours. Her mounds inflate until her breasts are as they once were.

She began to lose her consciousness with the last of her skin no longer being veiled, revealing her birthday suit. Without any strength left to resist, her body collapsed into a forgotten position, one she can only remember from the day she was born. She had spent so much of her time awake to witness her Rebirth, for more than her new self would have wanted.

After a prolonged reversion, Xin Xianying lay naked in the grass, her breathing now a gentle cadence. Throughout the day, she remained in a peaceful slumber, the exhaustion of her not-so-last day as a human and the night as a Wolf weighing heavily on her. Not even the blinding sunlight managed to budge her.

It wasn't until near dusk that her eyes fluttered open. She would have slept for some more if not for a bird perching on her fingers. “Oh hey…” but the bird immediately takes the hint and flies away once she starts moving her finger, leaving her with a smile as it goes. With soft groans, she slowly rose, her arms lifting her aching body. Confusion etched her features as she surveyed her surroundings. "Huh?... Where... Am I? Did I just have a long dream?”

As the memories of the transformative night flooded back, Xianying gazed at herself with a mix of confusion and disappointment. The realization settled in, and she muttered, "So it's not permanent… I should have known there was a catch. No matter how much time has passed now, that was the one dream I wouldn't wake up for.” She then let out a sigh “Well that was embarrassing for me to assume such things”

Facing the reality at the time that the transformation wasn't permanent, Xianying pondered her next steps. Thoughts of returning home crept into her mind, "I can't just disappear if I will still be like this... I should go back, my brother must be worried about me" she concluded.

As Xianying took her first steps of finding her ways returning home, wherever it was, the sight of the emerging full moon on the horizon caught her attention. "It's the moon again… mmph!" A familiar tingle coursed through her body and clogged her words, catching her off guard. Instinctively, she hugged herself, feeling the energy surging once more.

As claws sprouted from her hands once again, Xianying observed the transformation occurring at a swifter pace, as if it knows what she's wanting. A mirthless chuckle escaped her lips as she considered the situation, muttering to herself, "Seriously, what are you talking about, Xianying. This is your new home... Perhaps, I could get used to this life after all."

Determined to embrace the transformation, she willed it to intensify, pushing the process to unfold even more rapidly. This came at the cost of her gasping for breath as her body isn't perfectly accustomed to being rushed to yet.

She felt her body changing, her back popping and cracking as she held onto a tree for support. Slowly, she slid down the tree, her landing is more gentle this time as she gracefully assumed the posture of a wolf on all fours with a returning smile as she closed her eyes, changing her visions.

The forest echoed with the symphony of groans, bones popping, and flesh contorting as Xianying's humanity quickly melted away once more. In the hushed moments that followed, the wolf emerged as brightly as last time. Tilted head and all, the creature let out a proud howl to bid a farewell to her old life, as the last red spots of the Sunset disappeared.

- - -

While she had learned that while she's forced to turn back into Human in the Break of Dawn, she could transform any time she likes as long as there's the Moon adorning the Sky. Even if it's during the New Moon.

Not long after, she eventually learned that she can control the speed of her transformation. From an instantaneous shapeshift in case of emergencies, to an almost therapeutic kind of slowness. And yet, any attempt she makes to hasten her Reversion always ends in failure due to her exhaustion after spending her time until her new bedtime, making it even more painful to do that as much as when she tried to resist it.

While she would rather spend her waking time in her wolf form most of the time, she enjoyed her transformation just as much if not more. In the end, despite never obtaining a permanent Wolfhood, becoming a nocturnal Reverse Wolfess is good enough for her as a compromise in the end. One cursed to return to her former self in Daytime for the rest of her peaceful life. And thus, in one timeline, this is the real truth of the “Whereabouts of Xin Xianying”.

While Xin Xianying's legacy is forever immortalized into the History Records, ever since that quiet night, nobody managed to find her whereabouts ever since. As the evidence of her former self that she stripped is also slowly cleaned by the Passage of time.

However, rumor has it that there's a wolf that can communicate with humans ever since she disappeared. She offers wisdom in the time of crisis to whoever manages to encounter it. And yet, it never shows its face in front of anybody no matter the time or seasons, and she's almost impossible to be found when one is daring enough to search for it.

Only two people managed to witness it however, namely Xin Chang and Wang Yuanji, and those rumors fizzled out once death claimed them too... Along with the End of the Three Kingdoms, and Unification of China under the Jin.
