ABO Desire EP. 8 - Reaction

ABO Desire EP. 8 - Reaction

Comments

J'ai trouvé intéressant le commentaire. j'ai donc fait une petite (longue) réponse 😂 : I’d like to respond to this comment, but please don’t take it as anything more than my personal opinion on the situation. First of all, I cannot agree with the idea that Shen Wenlang is a “green flag” as they describe him. A true green flag would never lie by implying that an omega is being assaulted (“used,” as he prefers to phrase it) by multiple alphas just to get under someone’s skin. A green flag would also never talk about an omega the way Shen does about Hua Yong (even if it’s false) in front of Sheng. That’s not harmless teasing—it’s manipulative and cruel. I’ve looked into the omegaverse in general, and even within this fictional framework, omegas are almost always portrayed as persecuted, treated like objects, and denied the same rights as alphas and betas. Some stories at least try to show omegas fighting for protection and equality. In a way, I see a parallel with how women are often treated when reporting sexual assault in real life—their voices dismissed, their pain minimized. In many omegaverse stories, it feels the same: omegas constantly have to fight not to be seen as inferior or disposable. Coming back to ABO Desire, Shen believes Gaotu is with an omega, and the fact that he would make such comments IN FRONT OF HIM—without a shred of care for how Gaotu might feel—proves to me that Shen Wenlang is nothing but a selfish jerk who only thinks of himself. Yes, he’s not as bad as Hua Yong, because at least he’s straightforward about most things (except for his schemes with Hua Yong), but he’s still egocentric. He might do nice things for Gaotu, but to me, it’s mostly for himself—because he loves him, even if he won’t admit it. I can’t see his actions as anything other than an unconscious attempt to prove to Gaotu that he’s “better” than the omega he believes Gaotu is in love with. That doesn’t make him a green flag in my eyes. Now, about Hua Yong. I honestly don’t know how he could ever think that violating someone and then disappearing afterward was a good plan. Yes, he was in rut and not thinking clearly, but when he realized the next day what he had done, he should have abandoned his whole idea of playing the martyr, pretending he was sacrificing himself for Sheng. At no point does he consider how Sheng might cope with what happened. Anyone could see that with everything happening—his company failing, his father’s worsening health, and then Hua Yong vanishing into Shen Wenlang’s shadow—this would shatter him completely. Hua Yong claims to be in love with Sheng, who is strong and intelligent, but breaking him in this way risks destroying the very person he claims to love. Hurting him like this is beyond toxic. To me, it shows that Hua Yong struggles with empathy and doesn’t fully grasp the consequences of his actions. Love mixed with obsession and manipulation isn’t love anymore—it’s poison. That being said, my opinion on their relationship doesn’t mean I dislike it. On the contrary, its toxicity is what makes it fascinating to watch. I enjoy stories that are unapologetically dark, where obsession and possession take the place of romance. I actually hope Hua Yong’s actions will turn into a nightmare for him once Sheng discovers the truth. The fact that Sheng likely won’t forgive him easily is important—it shows the series is actively critiquing the act, rather than romanticizing it. That’s a huge difference compared to so many series that package harassment or even rape as “romantic comedy” moments. (for exemple, that infamous scenes when a character deliberately gets another drunk to sleep with him. If you’ve watched the series I'm talking about, you know exactly which scenes I’m referring to.) This is why I appreciate ABO Desire: from the very first episode, it doesn’t hide its darker themes. It presents obsession, manipulation, and possession for what they are. Viewers who don’t like that kind of story can immediately choose to walk away. There’s honesty in that approach, and I respect it. Finally, let’s talk about Sheng. As I’ve mentioned in my reactions, I know he isn’t exactly a green flag either. But the speed of his change makes him feel like one, in a way. I truly believe people can change. Redemption arcs and character development—whether it’s someone going from light to dark or from dark to light—are what I find most compelling in any story. Change doesn’t erase past actions, but it shows growth. Chi Cheng in Revenged Love is a great example of this. Sheng, to me, is no longer the same man he was. And if Pin Ming can see that, then why can’t Hua Yong? After all, Hua Yong has been stalking and observing him for so long. His constant self-doubt blinds him to how much Sheng is ready to give him. Hua Yong likes to think of himself as intelligent, but he completely misses the point: because of his lie about his pheromone disorder and what the doctor said, Sheng holds himself back from bringing Hua Yong with him to important events. Hua Yong should have realized that by now. But he didn’t—because his jealousy and insecurity cloud his judgment. And that’s what makes these characters so interesting. None of them are all-powerful, none of them are truly pure or “safe.” They are flawed, broken, contradictory—and that’s exactly what makes analyzing them so engaging. Many people around me don’t like the series, but I think it’s a shame not to dig deeper into the characters’ behavior and just stop at the surface. For me, ABO Desire is worth watching precisely because it forces us to confront those flaws head-on. Here is my little view on the characters and on everything that happened. Sorry for the long reply.

By this time, they have been living together for almost a year and Shaoyou has been spending his ruts with multiple omegas every time. Also, he insists on every omega he is with to not have had a past lover but the vast majority of the time he sleeps with them once and then forgets about them as the extent of their relationship. Remember Hua Yong met with his 32 past lovers (more now) and he knows exactly how Shaoyou behaves. Shaoyou rejecting the escort is very unusual which is why she was behaving that way. She expected him to react a certain way and thought he wanted her to try harder to appeal to his ego. That's why he has Pin Ming say it so it is clear. Also, the way the seats were arranged for the meeting was very clearly a display of superiority from Hua Yong designed to piss off Shaoyou. This was so that when Shaoyou loses control due to Hua Yong's targeted luring pheromones (which no one else can feel and even Shaoyou won't be able to remember) it can be used to state that Shaoyou lost control and attacked upper management at x holding for a 2nd time. This would be like a cross between physical assault and sexual harassment from my understanding of the ABO dynamics which is why everyone takes it seriously and even Pin Ming can only say Shaoyou didn't mean it. Hua Yong is the reddest flag ever, but Shaoyou is not a green flag. It is just that Hua Yong is so red that Shaoyou seems green. Actually even Gaotu is a red flag. He has been actively hiding a major part of his identity and relationships from his best friend for almost 10 years. Shen Wenlang's only fault is that he trusts Gaotu. Ironically he is the only green flag among them. He is brisk but has never hidden anything and is direct and clear in his attentions. From their first interactions he has wanted Gaotu to pay better attention to his own health and he is rightfully (though unknowing of the true degree) upset with him about his lack of self care. He hired him on the basis of being friends and pays him a truly exorbitantly high salary (not just for a secretary in the company). That is why he is so annoyed that Gaotu is so thin and always sick, spending all his energy on an omega that seems bent on sucking him dry of both money and health. He thinks this omega is why Gaotu has not already gotten his sister treated as well and why he lives in the shabby space. (It is actually his gambler father.) I love the real friendship between Hua and Shen. They are ride and die besties.

I just finished watching the episode 😂😭 I read your comment too late but don't worry someone already gave me a warning before

Came here after finishing today's ep. Just want to say before you watch ep 9, remember that this is Omegaverse and even though they're humans, their instincts are more like animals so they have less control of themselves. I'm glad I understand Omegaverse because I would've dropped the show otherwise
