The Cost of Concordia

Early preview of the new main channel video.

All feedback welcome -- I'm  a bit worried the recreation scene goes too long but not sure how to trim without losing vital detail. Maybe I've just watched it too many times...

Let me know your thoughts. I've still got about 1 day's worth of editing left with it to make it right.

Thank you for being so patient and for your support.

More soon.

The Cost of Concordia

Comments

I have some video title ideas: Oscar Pistorius, Gamestop stock and wallstreetbets and roaring kitty, the Ever Given Suez Canal fiasco, rise and fall of bernie madoff, thomas cook bankruptcy and British repatriation

Twitch???

I like this idea. More shorts but maybe 4 or 2 vods a year longer would be great.

I personally loved this one. One of these feature-length "films" bi-annually or quarterly would be amazing.

Andy Wolf

The recreation is perfect no filler.

Honestly thought this was probably your best video, long enough to explain everything really well while still being engaging

Love it the length was fine to me

My comment seems to be missing. IH, are you not receiving my messages about Seize the Day. and The Bikelock Fugitive of Berkeley?

Cyberweasel89

That was good enough to youtbe algorithm you into my recommendations... the no man sky video then made me a supporter :)

this is good :)

Only content creator where I genuinely like the adds so much that I miss not having them, you're on some next level stuff man!

dude this is so good, well worth the wait, dont change a bit . Friggin masterpiece horsey x

Fantastic job. Hilarious and educational. I was thinking that scenes like the one at 19:28 could be a good opportunity to sneak in some easter eggs for nerds like me who like to pause the video and hunt for them. But I don't know if you like that kind of style. I'll also go against the grain and say that I didn't think the recreation bit was too long. And what happened to the woman in the box??? Did she survive???

ib_

Amazing video, worth the wait! It's videos like this I support you on patreon! If I had to give any negative feedback it'll be the whole thing with the drugs on the ship felt unfinished segment. I was left assuming there's more to it but didn't talk about it due to either lack of information or youtube guidelines.

Gameplayer1500

I loved every second of it! I think it was a great and respectful video whoing the utter incompetence and liability of the captain and those in charge and outlining the acts of those trying to actually make things right. Maybe there could have been some personal destinies of those casualties explained, as to givve people context how they died on the ship (or giving a general overview) as to better understand the situation. The comedic elements were on point! Keep it up! Great stuff!

Italian hand meme galore*

The production budget for this excellent video was probably more than the cost of Concordia

Thank you! This is hugely useful!! We'll be putting some of these suggestions in

Reposting, since upgrading the patreon tier deleted my comment :) First of all, such a great great great video! loved it! I do understand the concerns about pacing but I think that since its a IRL event that happened long ago (2012 sic!) its necessary to explain it with as much detail as possible - setting is important. Also the transitions are so on pint - sad that we didn't get to see the ad (god did i just said that ?) I do agree with your idea for more often and shorter videos! However gems likes of Engoodening are absolutely amazing too so don't feel bad to commit to bigger project if you feel like it - aka. don't restrain yourself <3 Now for any suggestions i think i have a few: 1. As mentioned by others the recreation part is a bit long. AS of it feels long when you go through it but after you watch the whole video it feels natural that it was like that ( THE DEEEETSSSSS). There are two ways in which yu can address it. First is the already mentioned removal of the magician pun as it kinda goes nowhere/ misses ngl. Second is splitting the video to parts. First being the "reconstruction" and 2nd being "the shenanigans". I think it would make it feel a bit better as during the 1st watch i didn't know if the reconstruction will be purely that or will there be something more to is - aka. at first i wasn't sure what to expect - marking that the segment will be about reconstruction could ease the dosage of material that is necessary to tell the story (and the DEEEEEEEEEEEETS) 2. Regarding the Dominica part - i do feel that it is a nice touch for the story overall but i would like to suggest 2 things. First, i would cut a bit about the drugs part as it feel a bit dragged. Second, during the first scene when Dominica appears i would make the "zoom in and say she will be important letter" thing you did in the Swedish video. 3. The masterpiece that is the crash montage misses the galore - thing it would suit in perfectly 4. Lastly, the recurring gag of "Costa Concordia hitting a pole" is amazing but grows a bit stale as it goes. Why not make it start small and with each consecutive time it appears it grows in the "oomph" ending on a Michael Bay-style explosion sequence (IH voice recorded explosions sounds would be much appreciated). Finally - god what a good video it is!!!! Will be a hit - inc Asmon reacts (love the pun with him in the vid too) - can't wait for more! Much love, xx

Villejag Fleskopelikane

Did you really film that "the deets" spaghetti clip? Lmao

Adam Oz

Awesome!!!! And no, I don’t think the recreation took too long at all. It all flowed perfectly, and before I knew it this wonderful mini-doc was over. So so good! Also, kudos for returning the bell from whence it came

Miriam

Hi IH. I am an avid cruiser (I know lol) and I really thought this video was well done and highly informative. The longer section you mention is totally necessary. You capture really important information and deliver it in an effective way. I’m bias as I admit cruising is a love of mine but I feel confident this will be interesting and understandable to non-cruisers too! Well done!

LadyTato

What the hell?! This isn't INTERNET history! This is a MASTERPIECE!!! Give us a higher tier level you stingy bastard! I liked the American Psycho pun. 😘

Jordan Rhodig

After a secondy viewing I must concede that I was a bit hasty with my judgment on the relevance of the Domnica part. Having a bit more background information about Domnica gives more insight into the captain, true. But the entire drugs part and her wacky was a bit drown out. I would have rather seen something done with the 32 people that died on the ship, where, how, and so on to fill that space up.

Loved it, fantastic work as usual IH, please for the love of god don't cut anything. I just have two things to add: firstly, I think the sniff at 18 seconds should be more drawn out and secondly at 46:20 I found myself asking why the hell Schettino was at a party in Naples when he was supposed to be serving a 16 year sentence?

Very well done. It's challenging to have a satirical take on a situation that involved many casualties, but you handled that very well imo.

Fantastic video! You cut the ad out! For patreons I assume but I would have loved to see it. You know everyone loves your ads. Anyway good stuff! I thought you were leading us on with the magicians assistant in the box, I thought it was gonna take a dark turn. Seems like it worked out. Also the scammer story although interesting felt a bit out of place. Ah its just nitpicking. Enjoyed every second of it. Killed me with the Linus ship tips, nice meme.

>Bogdanoff reference My menton grew in pleasure. The recreation segment was fine - the Dominica and magician segments can be cut with little lost.

Sorairo

That was, absolutely, perfecto. The scene transitions were really great! Normally it is just a background with a title but these were more engaging. That spaghetti though. Jesus. Also, it was a very Italian themed transition. Personally, I enjoy the tremendous amount of detail you have in your videos so I was on board with everything you had included. The part on Domnica I found relevant. It shows character and adds to the character of the captain. She is as wacked as he is. That is just my personal taste though. Checkmate Wayfaring. The only part I found unclear was the ending. Did he not serve the prison sentence or was it just part of it? At any rate, well done my dude.

First off, well done IH, well done! Absolutely fantastic. I really like the recreation, research, and detail put into this video. Looking forward to the Q&A! Regarding the last part during the credits. I agree, that these (long) videos are nice and I appreciate the details and research you put into them. But I also like the videos you did that were just 10-15 minutes or less. That way, I can imagine, you can focus on different things, perspectives and stories. Regarding your worried about the recreation, what felt a bit too long and not really relevant is the story about Domnica Cemortan. I find that it adds something, a lot of fun in a fascinating person, but could be cut out. Besides that, the part about the magician and the woman in the box could also be cut out, since you don't really come back to it besides that part that the magician left. Those are my points of feedback. Thanks, IH, really appreciate all the time and hard work you put into these videos. P.s. you might want to think about adding subtitles to the thing that person on the speaker said on minute 12:35. It's kinda hard to hear (at least for me).

12:10 am, you damn legend
