It’s technically not new for the time because he tried to do the same thing with Super Junior and Exo (both had a Chinese line to promote in China) but failed to commit to the limitless concept because SM kept getting in the way. The fans get attached to idols so they don’t love rotating lineups, as we have come to learn (it’s why NCT Dream ditched the graduation concept). Technically NCT also didn’t accomplish what he wanted to do because if it was up to him, we’d have NCT Hollywood, NCT SEA etc. SM confirmed NCT Wish is the final subunit and there will be no more added members so even they technically failed to do the limitless thing, but it was the closest since SM flat out shut it down with EXO and Super Junior. It was so wild at the time because they were like even you can one day become an NCT member, audition now. But clearly Lee Sooman and SM clearly didn’t see eye to eye and he left the company in 2023.
