I mean, there always is with survival shows, but I think that this is one of the first times in survival show history (especially Mnet survival shows specifically) where K fans are feeling jilted. If you didn’t know, for ZB1, the top 8 that debuted was the exact top 8 that would have debuted had Koreans been the only people allowed to vote. So basically, they got their entire lineup. In global voting Jay and Keita were 3rd and 4th but because their K votes were sooo low, they got pushed out of the top 9. But Taerae for example was like 11th or something globally but since he places 2nd in korean votes, he was able to push into the lineup. In this season, quite a few of the trainees that debuted were global top 8 picks but not Korean picks. Like Jiahao, Leo, and Junseo were all out of the top 8 if you only consider Korean votes. And people like Li yu, Lee Jeong, and Kangmin were top 8 in Korea but all just barely missed the lineup b/c their global votes were too low. So Koreans are taking this finale super hard and there has been a bunch of drama on twitter specifically. I just think the discourse seems heavier this time around because typically one group of people are very happy with the lineup but in this case it’s like global fans got a few of their picks, k fans got a few of their picks, and mnet got a few of their picks but no one is 100% satisfied so there’s this weird energy. It will definitely dissipate with time though and people will move on. As it always goes with survival shows and the cycle continues.
