2025-10-16 02:40:17 +0000 UTCWhen I first watched Death Note, I had the same thoughts initially, like βno way this MF is gonna make a run for it & get away!βπ But it feels right for Ryuk to write Lightβs name in the notebook. One thing I really like about the ending is having Matsuda shoot Light to prevent him from using the piece of the Death Note in his watch. Light never respected Matsuda, looking down on him more than he did others. Light viewed Matsuda as a joke. As we listen to Light montage like the villain he is, right as he tries to sneak in one last kill, itβs satisfying to watch Matsuda not hesitate to shoot Lightβall while scolding Light for his father & his lack of empathy concerning how he died. Even if Light didnβt care, someone needed to say it to him.

Fun fact: The "Quindecim bar" is the setting for the anime series "Death Parade". In this bar, two people who have died at the same time are sent to play a "Death Game" to determine whether their souls will be reincarnated or sent to the void. Light makes a cameo appearance in this bar, though his presence is never officially confirmed. He appears as an unnamed character in Episode 11 who has a physical resemblance and personality traits similar to Light. This cameo is widely considered an Easter egg that hints at what might have happened to Light after his death, though the series does not explicitly confirm this.

But instead of escaping the room like he did, in the manga Light asks Ryuk in desperation to write everyones names in his notebook, Ryuk says okay making everyone nervous but he ends up only writing Lightβs name, killing him in front of everyone.
