To answer your inquiry, Death Note aired as a singular season from October 2006 to June 2007. Hearing that you’re enjoying the transition to Mello & Near is great!! There’s a lot of people who dropped the series after L’s death. I also agree with Jason, that the plot kept its fast pace when Mello & Near swapped into L’s position, much like jumping right into a new story. I feel like the people who stopped watching had difficulty with the transition, like they’re unable to separate the story into parts or acts. Plus, some people didn’t want an L replacement. But I think the idea of the Wammy’s House orphanage nurturing genius children as L’s place of origin beautifully sets up that a larger force is lurking & able to pursue criminals like Kira. It’s an establishment made to always have an “L” character available to replace the next, like an immortal figurehead. There’s other things in Death Note that were also divisive with fans, but I wanna wait until the end to discuss it.
