🦀 Calypso + Windard

Two lil refs for Calypso, a member of Captain’s crew, and Windward, who was the captain of Cap’s first crew.

Calypso is a frontline fighter for the glory, she’s skilled in swordfighting and close combat. Though, her special talent is travelling to learn about various sea creatures! She’s very loud and boisterous, always getting up to mischief and dragging her fellow crew members into it with her, though she’ll always bail you out if stuff goes wrong. She’s very competitive, always challenging people to a game of liars dice or sparring matches, and loves to place high bets. She’s also a fantastic bluff, putting her skills to use in order to help steal trinkets from unsuspecting ponies in taverns. Of an evening Cally likes to tell elaborate ghost stories, hoping to get a fright out of her crew members, as well as telling grand tales about various mythical sea creatures and old sailors tails. She knows a lot about various sea mythos, and she is incredibly superstitious. Not a lot gets under her skin, she’s hard to rile up, but playing into her superstitions is a sure fire way to get on her nerves.

Windward was the captain of the crew that Jingle Jangle (Captain) joined when she was 15 and first set out to sea. She’s not a present character now a days, but was important in Jingles past. She was a naive captain, always getting in over her head and never willing to clean up the mess. She would throw lavish parties with the finest rum and wine her crew plundered, always giving out a generous share of her treasure to those on board. Though she was fun to be around, she lacked in leadership skills and whenever things would go wrong, she would rarely be present to help. Over time she became greedier, sending her crew out on more and more dangerous voyages to hunt larger and more dangerous beasts for larger profits, putting her pride and ambition above her crews safety, which resulted in her abandoning her crew and wrecked ship instead of facing the reality of the mess she had caused.

I love these two a lot! Calypso is an old character I pre had for around a decade, she was originally named Gold Dust, but after a year of debating, I finally changed her up and plopped her on Captain’s crew! And Windward is such an important character to Captain’s past, I’m glad I finally have her actual design down. I wanted her to be a visual opposite to Captain in a way - Cap is has a warm toned palette, Windward has a cool toned palette, windwards mane and tail are long and not tied, and her coat is also long and drags on the floor, very impractical for a pirate, while Captain’s mane and tail are short and tied up, as well as her coat being shorter and tied in the middle. I just basically wanted Windward to look like she’s playing pirate, because she kinda is. She’s not locked in and isn’t taking stuff too seriously, while Captain is locked in and takes it very seriously. You know. Very fun.
