the head patting is definitely a cultural thing, you see it often in Japanese media when someone older is praising someone much younger, usually reserved for children. So in this case its a little funny to see an elf do it to human adults, especially in such awkward fashion haha

A fun observation is they bring up how humans only started to fly around 40 years ago, which is why Frieren wrs able to catch Qual off guard with a Zoltraak back in episode 3. He looked all around and only looked up when he didn't see her anywhere since he didn't think any non-demon could fly.

Can we call it a reverse post-morten narrative of an unreliquished love story?

His blame for rubbing Frieren's head for 10 years straight and then once again in Himmel's funeral.

I can relate to what Mr. Heiter was saying, and I know plenty out there can relate as well.
My mind still feels like it was as a child and at times it feels like I'm pretending to be an adult, despite how long ago childhood was for me. But for the sake of creativity, I'll say that's a good thing.
Not sure if I need anyone to rub my head though, haha.
