It's the suspense of what happens next that's going to drive everybody crazy at the last panel's cliffhanger...

You're keeping me hooked here. Adrian's reactions both cute and really earning their place as whole frames on the strip.

God this is so RICH with just. Emotion. It's like getting a slice of chocolate cake at an expensive restaurant, it's probably a good thing we're only getting one page every week or two..

But also Hilde... when you pour your heart out to someone in an unexpected way, some kind of curt-surprise is the expected response while they process

I really was not expecting Adrain to look shocked. I thought she was going to cry or something.

Ack, I dunno that last expression is so hard to read! It could easily be a “Really Hilde, and you’ve waited this long” look, but I could easily imagine some hurt on it too, like the early stages of realizing something terrible has happened. :x

Ack! No release from the pins and needles then. I really can’t tell based on what we learned from Adrian, the final scene in part 3 tells us much but can so easily go one of two ways. Her last relationship was defined by her being used and strung along by false sincerity, and having finally seen and rejected that she might have her guard up - Hilde tried to be clear last page it “wasn’t a pretense,” but words are cheap and Adrian might be afraid that everything positive Hilde has said to her was only flattery to get in her pants. That would be... catastrophic, not just for Hilde but for Adrian, who so clearly *needed* to feel validated, that questioning this friendship as a lie would cut extremely deep.
But... on the other hand, she seemed surprised last issue when Hilde reiterated that she genuinely likes her, and she’s given the tell-tale “everything I do is a burden to others” speech of the emotionally abused. So part of Adrian is scarred by both Wyatt and assumedly her parents into self confidence issues that might have left her simply afraid to believe Hilde could really be interested in her. I’d wager this was built by the “No one cares about you, you’re such a screw up” kind of abusive parents, which made her vulnerable to Wyatt’s “You’re such a screw up, but I care about you anyway so you’d better like what I give you because you’ll never do better than me” form of abuse. She may see how abusive Wyatt is now, but the scars run so deep... what if she’s already wished Hilde would make a move on her but doesn’t dare to think she’s good enough? If she thinks Hilde is a “pity friend” who couldn’t possibly be interested? Hilde is unabashedly loose, but has respected Adrian’s distance because she’s learned how fresh a wound her last relationship was. But what if Adrian only takes that for evidence Hilde doesn’t want her? For “I’m literally living with this woman who openly talks about dating multiple people and she hasn’t expressed any interest, just goes to show how unappealing I am.” If that’s the case AND she’s willing to accept Hilde’s confession at face value, that she kinda has ulterior motives but had all-in-all *been genuine,* her next words might be “so then... why haven’t you?” Or “Why aren’t we?” Too perfect? Maybe, but I could see it. Both such opposite reactions, both so plausible.
Edit: You know, part of me wants to bank on this going well simply due to the comic’s structure. In many stories, I’d expect this to go poorly to built up the conflict more for later resolution. But A&H club is split into these parts, and so far each issue has wrapped up its central conflict and left us with at least an optimistic ending. If this issue ended with a falling out to be patched later... *shakes head* I I just don’t see him ending an issue on a sour note, unless the issue just runs longer and that patching-up is the following scene. But, I could also be very, very wrong

Same here, but that looks decidedly like "I'm completely shocked, but kinda on board with it... I think."
Can't wait for the next one. Adrian should totally go fo the kiss now.
