Charge Up Front Issue
Added 2016-12-01 02:41:42 +0000 UTCSo apparently despite earlier in the system claiming that double charging would not occur, for some reason Patreon decided that they would double charge everyone despite this not making any sense.
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE CHARGED AGAIN ON DEC 1 WHEN YOU WERE ALREADY CHARGED FOR THE PLEDGE LEVEL, SEND ME A NOTE AND I WILL REFUND IT IMMEDIATELY
EDIT: I will just send a message to everyone on the November Special level in the morning, I figured out how to handle this now.
I would also suggest sending a very strongly worded message to Patreon so they can get their butts in gear over this idiotic situation.

Meh, if it does take double keep it as a lil extra for the holiday season! :)

2016-12-02 07:51:15 +0000 UTCI think I figured out how to do this now though. Will be asking people charged on Dec 1 if 1) they were charged for the November Special in November and 2) what they intended their pledge level to be after that, so I can issue an appropriate refund In the future I may have to do specials like this apart from the patreon system because it's clearly not intended to handle one-off events like this yet

2016-12-01 05:36:52 +0000 UTCAh, well if that's the case, then that certainly is an issue worth complaining to Patreon about.

2016-12-01 05:33:43 +0000 UTCI think part of the problem is that Patreon is thinking "He paid upfront for November when we started charging upfront, and now we've started charging December 1st, so we won't charge him for December to avoid double charging." It depends on what we did for the month, but from what i read, Patreon is saying that Patreon creators have the option to charge upfront for the month if they change their creditcard. If we did that in the mid of November, then we won't get charged on the regular billing date if that happens. I'm going to wait a little while before i change my card, but i'm certain that's what is going on.

2016-12-01 04:50:50 +0000 UTCSee that's what confuses me, apparently some people are gonna be charged in January and I'm not sure why
Rick Griffin
2016-12-01 04:40:00 +0000 UTCAlready got charged in November it says, but right now the system is saying my next charge will be Jan 1-5th. As far as i know, if i downgrade back to the $10 monthly that i usually pay, no charge will occur until that date.

2016-12-01 04:38:48 +0000 UTCMaybe, I'm gonna try and save the list as it is right now

2016-12-01 04:27:55 +0000 UTCIf we haven't been charged twice yet, are we safe to go back to a lower tier and still receive the November Special reward?

2016-12-01 04:25:09 +0000 UTC"And if I'm charged on Dec 1, then immediately cancel, I'd still expect to get my December print (in January)." Well that's not what's going to happen anymore; the lists are updated on the fly, so if you cancel on December 1st before I notice, you're no longer on the list even though you paid out
Rick Griffin
2016-12-01 04:13:27 +0000 UTCIs that a big deal? If I buy something from Amazon, I'm charged for it, but I might not get it for a week. If I sign up in November, I get the November print in December, and that's fine. And if I'm charged on Dec 1, then immediately cancel, I'd still expect to get my December print (in January). As long as I get what I paid for, I'm happy :) Having a bit of a lag shouldn't be an issue; e.g., some creators send an archive of that month's work at the end of the month. If I sign up on Nov 3 and am charged immediately, obviously I'm not going to expect to get the November collection until after November. But I guess my main point is that as far as I can tell, all of this is exactly how Patreon has documented charging up front to work, and I don't think a strongly-worded message to them is necessary :)
Dahan
2016-12-01 04:12:28 +0000 UTCBecause I don't send you anything until the following month. If you sign up in the middle of November, you get November's print-of-the-month in December, despite the fact that you're also charged at the first of december.
Rick Griffin
2016-12-01 03:58:23 +0000 UTCIsn't that the whole point of charging up front? So people (and/or bots) can't pledge at the highest level and grab everything, then cancel. Perhaps the issue is that Patreon always does its regular monthly charge on the 1st of the month, rather than 1 month after you're first charged... but they do that in order to consolidate the charges for people who have pledged to multiple creators. In any case, I personally don't see it as a big deal... Patreon seems to be designed for ongoing pledges, not one-off payments. And I guess you could say that even if I pledge on the last day of the month, I get access to everything that was created that month, so why wouldn't I have to pay for the whole month?
Dahan
2016-12-01 03:56:21 +0000 UTCRight, except that doesn't make any sense because you'd be charged for a full month even if you sign up on the very last day of a month, why in the world should it work that way?
Rick Griffin
2016-12-01 03:44:28 +0000 UTCWhat do you mean by double charging? I increased to the November special pledge level earlier this month, and since you're set to charge up front, I was already charged for difference between my old level and the November special level—which is what Patreon says will happen: <a href="https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/210291283-What-is-charge-up-front-How-do-I-get-it-" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/210291283-What-is-charge-up-front-How-do-I-get-it-</a> "If an existing patron increases their pledge, they will be charged the difference between their last pledge value, and the new pledge value." If I don't change my pledge level now, I'm pretty sure I'll be charged for the November special again. Assuming that's what you mean by double charging, that seems to be how Patreon says it's supposed to work. And that's how I'd expect it to work too; charging up front means I'm charged for whatever I've pledged as soon as I pledge it.

2016-12-01 03:41:36 +0000 UTCCrap. As a creator myself, I hope this isn't a widespread problem. I just launched and have my first few patrons added this month.
