Age Verification? Huh?!

Today I saw on twitter that Patreon has been requiring creators to post their real life ID to verify their age or they'll lock down the creator's account. Apparently this notification was sent out around sept 2022 and I missed it?!

I panicked a bit and started looking into it more but there doesn't to be any big tweet about it so I'm wondering if I'm just flying under Patreon's radar cause apparently they started doing this in march 2023...

Anyway, I kept looking around and apparently this all started because someone was selling content on their patreon that was based around...their real life underage child. Yikes. But OTOH, I saw a tweet mentioning that this verification thing doesn't apply to creators making drawings but the patreon's support page says 'depictions of human beings'...So...???

But, in the case that I do have to verify my age by giving patreon my ID, I will be shutting down. This is not only because I don't want to give patreon my ID just because, but also because I'm in a country that can potentially get me in trouble for making great lord tier content and they do have a track record of demanding platforms to hand over data.

If this happens and I can shut down the GL tier to dodge the ID verification, I would do so and maybe switch to comms for that type of content (but I'd rather not cause handling it one by one each time is a pain). If I can't, I would then shut down this patreon and look for alternatives and have to rebuild. What platforms do you guys have in mind if so?
