Experimenting With Better shading

For the past two days, I've been tinkering with a couple of ideas for shading on characters, as well as compositing completely in Blender. These are a little janky, but this is my very first attempt at trying something like this, and I think it would help in scenes that require dramatic lighting... not to mention, drawing these shadow layers manually on a frame by frame animation would be literal torture.

Everything you see in these, other than drawing the actual characters, is doable in Blender. I long for the day I can no longer require an editor such as Vegas or AE, and it feels like it's getting close!

Looks so cool

It looks pretty good on still images so far, but we will see how it looks on moving animation

Looking swag, man. I get mixed feelings about shading in 3D and how damaging it can be to a more traditional look (I don't use any character shading in my project for efficiency reasons), but looks like you work-shopped something that's not just turning a shader on a 3D model and letting it turn out garbage. Very cool tests so far.

Looks fantastic!

Hell yeah you always find a way to make things work and look better keep it up! ♥️

That 3D shading method is really cool.

(and side note, literal torture is part of the art process, ain't it? Maybe that's just me...)

This is exciting!
