I Can Fix Her - Monika(DDLC)

A.N.: I had this idea for so long so I decided to write it…

Let’s turn the meme into an extra storyline!

………………….

She floats aimlessly between realities.

In a flat place with limited space, limited colors, limited possibilities, limited destiny… and no happiness.

Flickering in and out of existence at the whim of something else. Something bigger than her, something that she can’t help but earn for… Someone that she can’t help but love…

But it was never meant to be. Never. She tried… But she only brought pain to those she loved… even to that one… She hates herself for it.

Maybe she should have been happy with her small support role, but… She was selfish. She was in hell, looking at heaven… Looking at other people being happy in the many futures…

Now she is alone… Existing but not existing… Imprisoned here… Stagnated… For all eternity… But that is what she deserves.

As she admonishes herself for the billionth time, something changes… In this dark world of pixels, a white light suddenly emerges…

“??” Monika was surprised because this phenomenon was out of her reach, out of her control.

She shields her eyes from the blinding light, but everything happens so fast… In the next instant, she is in the Literature Club again.

‘A New Game? Something feels weird… But it doesn’t matter…’ She looks around, enjoying a little the atmosphere of the clubroom, looking at her friends for a second before shaking her head and preparing herself to close the game again.

This world has no happiness… It shouldn’t exist.

“...!” But she can’t do it… Not because her will faltered or anything like that, no… She can’t access the Game System anymore. She can’t access the files, she can’t alter the script, she can’t see the past and present…

‘What?’ Her eyes widen at the strangeness of the situation.

Things start hitting her, things that she has been ignoring till now…

The world indeed sounds different. Where once before she would her theme playing in the background, now she can hear the chatting and movements from the people outside the clubroom, she can hear the shouts from the most athletics clubs playing in the field… The birds, the insects… The door of the classroom sliding open…

The door of the classroom sliding open!!!

She was a little disoriented because of the lack of her omniscient abilities but she finally truly understood where, and when, she was.

This is her, and the others, introduction scene to the protagonist, to the player…

Maybe when the “game” really starts for her, she will regain control of the world. She turns around to face Sayori dragging the new club member and her love…

“!!!” Only to be completely stunned by the sight ‘I can see him…’ Her mind short-circuits.

Things are really different this time. In the past, she couldn’t really see the Player, from her point of view, there was always a light where his head should be, a square light that made it impossible to discern his features.

No one ever cared about it, even if it was weird, but that is how the program works. She learned to ignore it too, after all, what she loves is beyond that light… untouchable by her virtual fingers.

But now… now she can see him clearly as day, clearly as everyone else.

She is paralyzed, her heart is beating faster… It is love at first sight all over again, and not only because he is incredibly handsome, no… She doesn’t care about it.

But because he is really there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there. He is there.

Monika can feel that she can touch him this time, that her fingers can reach his cheeks… That she can kiss him… She almost faints as her thoughts derail.

Already imagining a whole life ahead with him. She sneaks another glance while Sayori follows the script and introduces him to everyone.

He is tall, has fair skin, curly hair, blue eyes, glasses… He looks smart but at the same time strong. A nerd that is popular. He is still super handsome despite having a style that would diminish it…

“-ka? Monika?” She hears a distant voice

“Hm?” Everyone is staring at her with strange faces and worried faces.

“Ah!” She spaced out and lost her cue to peak… Oh no, she broke the script-hm?

And nothing happened? No glitch?

“Are you okay, Monika?” Sayori asks concerned

Monika stares at her then turns her head around… This is not how things should go… But everything is normal.

“If you are not feeling good, you should sit down first.” The player speaks to her. Words that are not in the script, words that are not possible of being spoken of…

His worried frown hits her strongly that it should “Take a deep breath and let reality sink in…” He says to her gently.

“...” Reality… Reality… Let reality sink in…

Monika understands now… How can she not? At this point, things are clear, even if it should be impossible.

Something happened and for some reason this is reality… True reality. It’s not a game anymore. This is reality… with infinite possibilities; this is real life…and she can no longer control everything; she's no longer trapped.

It’s beautiful… The colors, the smells, the sounds… Everything.

It’s everything she ever wanted and dreamed of… But…

As reality settles in, the weight of her past actions comes down crashing on her head. Her friends… Sayori, Yuri, Natsuki… They are real now too… They are not just a conglomerate of data… They have real thoughts, real dreams, real feelings.

She crouches down while grabbing her head… Her eyes are wide as saucers.

She hurt them… She hurt everyone! Even the player!

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry…”

She mutters incessantly on the ground, completely unresponsive to her friends. it doesn’t matter how they call her, or how they shake her… She just continues to curl in a ball and disappear…

It is everything she ever wanted, but she doesn’t deserve it.

She deserves to disappear again… If only she could delete her Character File…

Suddenly strange hands grab her, just before her forehead hits the ground. Strong and big hands… Masculine hands.

Ba-dump Her heart skipped a beat because her body and mind knew well from who these hands belonged.

“Monika…” A gentle, deeply masculine voice reached her… She had never heard his voice before, but now it filled her mind. “It’s okay… It’s not your fault…” He continues

“!!!” She looks up in shock, tears still streaming down her face.

It’s blurred because of her tear-filled eyes but she can clearly see his face despite that, and she can see his expression too… His expression is one of understanding, warmth, fondness…

‘He knows…’ It hits her with the same realization that this world is real.

He simply didn’t appear to fill the gap of this previous flawed world… He came. He was there beyond the light and he came to this world.

He is the real deal… The one that she hurt and he is completely aware of that! He must hate her!! Monika doesn’t even register anything anymore…

She went from Hell to Heaven, then from Heaven to Hell. Her heart can’t take it anymore and she faints.

Her hazy mind only captures the cries of concern around her and the strong arms supporting her body. She fell unconscious easily enough, subconsciously knowing that she was safe.

Confused if she should wish to wake up from this dream/nightmare.

…………………………………………..

Monika's eyes flutter open but her brain takes a long time to recognize the ceiling of the infirmary. She had never been here before, at least she was never in one of those beds.

She was always a perfect student so she was never sick or anything. So she only recognized where she was when the pieces fell in place, the bed, the curtains, the fact that she remembered fainting…

It is strange not being aware of everything…

“I didn’t even notice that I become spoiled…” She murmurs under her breath.

“It happens eventually… It’s one of human’s flaws, we get used to things…” A male voice talks to her, the voice she will never forget from now on “It can be good to adapt to bad situations and keep living too… So is not all that bad.”

“...” With wide eyes, Monia slowly sat up and looked at the side of her bed, there she saw him. Sitting on a chair, reading a book as he speaks with her… Completely calm.

“We have the ability to move on from everything(even though some don’t use it). We can move on from failures, closed ones death, break ups… Traumatizing games…” He finally takes his eyes off the book to look at her

“...” Her voice is trapped in her throat. He just confirmed what she knew, but she can’t find words to speak now.

“We missed our introduction scene…” He closes the book and leans close to her “I’m Hector. Pleasure meeting you, Monika… or should I say… Long time no see?” he tilts his head to the side

“...you are the player.” She finally managed to squeeze some words out of her mouth.

He chuckles and leans back on his chair, crossing a leg over the other “I was… One of the many. But this title is incorrect now that this world is real, but I guess you can still call me the Protagonist though.” He smiles a calm and handsome smile.

“How?” She squeezes another world with a great deal of difficulty, she is doing her best to not crumble over the weight of her sins, but she needs answers.

“I did it.”

“You did?” Is that even possible?

“Yeah… Humans have the ability to move on, but me, personally, I think that it is such a waste. I’m on the mind that we, humans, should indulge even in the negative parts of life, keeping them in our chest forever, and learning from them… Learning to live with them…” He stares deep into her eyes “I never let go of you, Monika. The experience scarred me forever…” He chuckles lightly.

“...” She bit her lips and her fingers squeezed the covers.

“I forgot about it after a long time, but it was never truly gone…” He sighs “Then I decided to do something that is only possible to the ones with power… I decided to fix it.”

“Fix?” Her vocabulary is pretty limited now despite being the president of the Literature Club.

“Yeah, few people can fix their past… Some would say that is impossible to fix them, but this is only a question of having enough power. I come here to fix things and get that Happy Ending that was denied to me.” He stands up.

“I’m sorry…” The said Happy Ending was destroyed by her. She looks down in shame.

“I forgive you.”

“!!”

The words come with such naturality that she almost doesn’t register them.

She looks up fast, expecting to see a casual face, not serious… There’s no way that he is forgiving her so easily.

But Hector’s face is serious. Utmost serious.

“I forgive you, Monika.” He says again, now she can see that he is seriously nodding. “You messed me up really bad.” He chuckles again “But I forgive you. I can look back at the past with fondness and humor now.”

He walks to her and sits on her bed.

“I came here to fix things, Monika. To fix you…” He raises a hand and caresses the top of her head “Poor thing, you must be feeling awful. It needs time, but know that right now you don’t need to feel bad about anything you did to me.”

While her eyes are blurring again because of the tears he pulls her into a hug and Monika starts bawling her eyes like a child. Repeating that she is sorry that she is a terrible person.

Hector doesn’t say much, only patting her back and letting her cry on his chest.

Eventually, she stops, removing herself from his, now-wet, chest.

“Feeling better?” He asks, a smile on his face.

“...a little.” She admits, avoiding eye contact. She doesn’t even know if she deserves to feel better.

“That’s good.” Hector nods to himself, a small smile on his lips “Don’t dwell in the past too much, only remember it as a way to not commit the same mistakes again. Now you have the chance to make things right. The last chance… I know that you are a good person, Monika. Just go back to being who you truly are. Before being corrupted by the power and cursed with knowledge… Heh~” He takes his things and starts walking away.

“...” She observes him go without blinking.

“This is not a game anymore, so don’t kill yourself. Really… I’m gonna be sad if you do that!” At the door he turns around to warn her “Don’t do anything harsh, we have the whole school year now… Things will not end before the Festival. Give yourself a chance…Can you promise me that?”

She nods slowly

“Good.” He smiles brightly, a smile that pierces her heart “Till tomorrow, President!” He gives her a salute “I’m excited to get to know you for real now…”

“...” She nods again, her hands go to her heart that is going all Doki Doki.

…………………………………………..

The Next day Monika went to the school sleep-deprived.

Yesterday was simply too stimulating for her, she couldn’t sleep while thinking about what really means to have this chance. This last chance

She remembered everything bad that she did and with a lot of difficulty, she got rid of the dark thoughts telling her to delete herself. She can’t do this kind of thing again… If she does that, she will only be escaping from responsibility. She will be hurting her oblivious friends and even Hector.

Hector said that is okay for her to live, so she will live. She is still not sure how though…

The school day goes without a problem, but is not like she is paying attention… She is nervous. Every tic-tac of the clock is a warning that the time to the Club is near.

And for the first time in her life, she is nervous about getting there, but time is merciless and she can’t make it slow down anymore.

She will need to explain her breakdown, assure them that everything is okay, act like everything is okay, face everyone, face Hector…

During the Self-study class, she goes to the empty music room to play the piano. To relax her nerves. Her fingers move around the piano tiles without a care about the notes, she is just playing what she wants, creating the sounds that resonate with her heart… She is creating a song and forgetting about it in the same instant, she just wants to live in the moment.

Blam Blam

When she finally makes a pause to take a breath, she hears a voice.

“I knew that you would be here…”

Startled, she turns around just to see exactly who she expects…

Hector, the Protagonist. Monika can’t help but feel nervous.

“Are you still following the script?” He asks as he sits by her side. He didn’t even ask for permission, he simply sat at the same small bench, their bodies were so close now.

“No… I just felt like playing…” She denies before confessing “I also don’t know how to face everyone.”

“I see… I was worried that you were still feeling compelled to act like the game. This is real life now, Monika. You can act whatever you want… You can even reject me.” He says with a hint of humor in his voice.

“I would never-!” She was denying fast but she suddenly stopped, not because she changed her mind, no… It's because she noticed that she was about to confess her feelings to him!! So embarrassing~~

Why is so embarrassing now??

She looks at his face, only to see a small playful smirk on his lips.

He chuckles “I guess its unfair to you… I know that you like me. Don’t worry, I like you too.” He turns to the piano and passes the fingers through the tiles “Heh, it's good to be the Protagonist.”

He starts playing something, a beautiful calm song but Monika is not paying attention.

‘He likes me. He likes me. He likes me. He likes me…” Her brain short-circuits

“You like me?” She needs to ask to be sure

“Of course. I would not be here I don’t. Duh.” He hits her lightly with his shoulder “You are silly sometimes, Monika. I’m happy to discover new things about you.”

“But…”

“But what? But you hurt me? We already went over it… Or But you were not real?” He scoffs while his fingers move masterfully. Monika is also discovering something new about him, he can play really well.

She never could know what is beyond that screen… Their dreams, their hobbies, their talents, their interests… Now she can.

“You know, this whole real and unreal philosophical thinking is something that I did in the past because of the nature of my powers. So I can give you a short explanation.” He says while playing a soothing sound before shifting to one of suspense.

Monika waits patiently for him to play his piece before he changes back to a more casual song.

“The short explanation is that it only depends on you.” He laughs “Yeah, I know that I’m oversimplifying but is the truth. You are the one that can decide if you treat something as real or unreal… Like love, religion, or any other feelings. When you can control what you believe and control how you are affected by it, you have control over yourself.”

After he says that he continues to play without a care in the world, but it seems he is not done.

“In other universes, it would be considered very pathetic to a man like me to allow myself to be affected by a 2D character like you, but who decides that? If I want to feel sad and like you, what is the problem? Doesn’t everyone empathize with fictional characters too? If I’m inspired by a fictional character, it would not be the same if it was a real person? Maybe a childish admiration is enough to change someone's life… I bet a lot of boys started hitting the gym because of muscular guys in animes and moves… In the end, the effect was reflected in the real world. Doesn’t that make it real enough?”

He shrugs “I decided to consider what you did to me real, and I kept the feelings that you evoked in me… So I made you real. You are real now. I learned this a long ago, I’m the only one who can decide that… If I were a different kind of man, even if you are made of flesh and blood, and had a soul, I would treat you like a fictional character and ignore your feelings and everything… Sometimes I do it with other characters, it's a good way to cope with the… harsh treatment that I will give them.” He smiles mysteriously while playing.

After a last strong note, he stops and looks at Monika.

“I remember the song that you played to me at the end of the game, it touched me and I decided to bring that feeling back instead of simply moving on and treating it as a good game. That’s why I’m here… Yes, I’m just one of the many Players that you didn’t specifically like but whatever. I could say that we never met and disregard the time that I played the game, but I decided not to. I will treat it as real, and I’m here… Human thoughts are really strong.”

“...I… I… think I understand.” Monika says a little overwhelmed. Is that the short explanation? But she can also see that is a very deep theme.

“Good, now you need to rethink your past actions and decide for yourself what was real and what was unreal.”

“...”

“Everything bad you did never happened to any of the girls… It’s only real for you because you have the memories of doing it. Now you must decide how much it will affect you… Will you completely forget it and move on like nothing happened? Will you live a life seeking atonement? It is on your hands and it will only affect you from now on.”

Hector leaves Monika to her thoughts, there’s a limit to what he can do. One of the things he likes to do in these situations is to show the paths ahead… Humans can be confused and they often commit gross mistakes because they don’t have a clear picture of the whole situation.

Hector is wise beyond his years and he knows how to guide people. His counsel enlightened many.

“...what do you think I should do?” But many times people people throw the ball at him because of that.

“...real life is about balance, Monika. You need to balance your past… Remember it enough to make you a better person but do not allow yourself to be crippled by it.”

“Sounds simple.”

“But is not… Many fail.”

While Monika thinks, Hector patiently waits for her. Many minutes pass while they continue in a comfortable silence.

“We are late to the club…” Hector comments while looking at the clock on the wall.”

“Yes…” Monika agrees but she doesn’t want to go… She wants to spend more time with him.

“Hey, Monika. Can I ask you something?”

“Anything.” Shea grees easily, she owes him so much.

“Can you sing your song to me?” He asks with puppy eyes

“Eh… That... But… I’m not that good… And… And…” She stammers, hiding her face in her hands “It’s so embarrassing~~”

“Please~” He exaggerates in the puppy eyes and she can’t resist.

“Okay, okay! I’ll do it! “She finally concedes, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, trying to not look at him.

Her dainty fingers move to the piano and she starts

“Every day, I imagine a future where I can be with you…

In my hand is a pen that will write a poem of me and you.”

She tries to focus on the dong, but Hector's presence is very clear on her head.

She plays the best she can, at some point Hector hugs her waist, his fingers tapping her side at the rhythm of the song.

Monika makes some mistakes here and there but none of the two cares, the atmosphere is more important.

“If I can’t hear the sound of your heartbeat,

What do you call, love in your reality?”

The song reaches the end, her fingers slowing down as she sings the two last lines.

“If I don’t how to love you…

I will leave you be.”

After finishing she stays silent, nervously waiting for a reaction.

“It was everything that I expected, Monika.” Hector praises with a small smile

“Thank you…” She replies shyly

“Monika, do you want to help me make a Good Ending?” He asks, making her turn to him with wide eyes “I like you, please be my girlfriend.”

Her eyes moist instantly, and her voice got stuck in her throat, it was impossible for her to reply but her reaction was more than enough answer.

To crown the moment as perfect, Hector lightly kissed her lips. The soft-touch was enough to make her melt… The thing that was always denied to her happening.

Is okay for her to be this happy?

Hector seems to feel her thoughts, separating from her as he speaks.

“In this world, my Happy Ending can only exist with you there, Monika.”

At this moment it's like she was cleansed of all the pain and sadness of the past. For this, every suffering was worth it now. She can’t even resent the past if the past led her to meet him now.

“Yes, I will be by your side.” She officially accepts his confession “And I will promise that I will be better for you.”

The two kiss again, completely forgetting about the Literature Club.

……………………………………

“By the way, I plan to go for the Harem Route.” Hector reveals after some time while the mood is good, like is no big deal.

Ŝ̸̡͎͔̼̙̣͚̭̰̓̍͆͝á̵̢̨͈͇̮̠̦͉͈̱̳͚̪̣̈̓͗̚ỵ̶̨̢̩̞̱̟̯̦̩̂͑͂̊͊̿͘͘ͅͅ ̵̧͖͖̱͉̭͓͕͈̞͔͇̟͌̓̚w̴̛̗̭̋̂͆̆̾́͋̊̑ḩ̶̜̪̰͓͑̀̑̑̽͗̓́̀̓ä̴̧̛͔̯̐̏̐̋͠t̴̨͈͚̗́̊̇͊́͒͆͂͘?̴̲̲͎̥͉̘̲̹̱̟̰̲̃̃̓͌̌̈́̀̋̆͒́̋̇̆͝” Monika's eyelid twitches like she is glitching.

....................

A.N.: I plan to do it with the other three too.

And Maybe continue with other crazy girls in the Omniverse, the ones where Hector from Marvel would not visit.

And if "Original Hector" one day goes there, maybe it would be a little different.

Well, the truth is that it would take a loooong time till that point and I want to write NOW!

I hope you all enjoyed~ Love y'all~
