Wilds of Wyoming Ch 4 (early snippet, work in progress)

The Last of Us: Miles To Go

The Wilds of Wyoming, Part III

The quote-unquote "Workshop" was once an automobile repair shop that also had the good luck of being behind the walls when the militia had been forced to put most of old Jackson to the torch. Since then, it has become the town's technological and industrial base, as Mayor Miller had put it in one of her more grandiose speeches.

Still, it was true: A couple of repair shops had popped up, and most farms and ranches had fairly well equipped garages thanks to Joel and Ellie's early career as scavengers. However, the Workshop was the only place in Jackson where everything from radios, guns, and even vehicles could be built and maintained reliably, and that made it very important to the Militia. So important, in fact, that the Rangers referred to the Workshop as the Gun Shop.

Of course, there had been only so much room for guns in the garage, so the Workshop had been expanded a few times over the past decade. One of those expansions was the Armory, where most of the Militia's weapons were kept when awaiting to be assigned. Ellie figured that's where most of her gear had been sent to.

“It's the Militia's gear last I checked,” reminded Joel, as he and Ellie walked around the old garage and made their way to the Armory's entrance. A couple of guards saw him with his daughter, and nodded.

Ellie pouted. “I had it the longest, it's mine.”

Joel chuckled. “Normally, I'd agree, but we're civilized folks, now. There are rules laws about that, and such.”

“How about this?” Ellie began. “I spent time, effort, and money out of my own pocket to customize those guns, so now they're mine.”

“...Still fairly certain that's not how that works.”

“Urgh, whatever.”
