Haha, the confused look on these two ladies faces at 1:04.20 when he sings "just smile and pretend to be gay". They did not know that the word used to be innocent and beautiful before it was co-opted lol.

Henry wasn't free; he was just out on bail. He would still be required to appear in court and prove his innocence. Henry saw the mobsters as heroes probably because, in his neighborhood, they were the heroes. Speaking for myself as a man (much like any stereotype)we aren't all willing to cheat on a significant other. And Kaen did get slapped I heard it all the way in America too.

These and many more stories about the New York mafia made national headlines in the US during much of the 1900s. Many worse than what happened in this movie.
It really happened. In fact, one real life mobster, who was mentioned in 'Goodfellas' by name, actually started a YouTube channel and talks about his life in it, Michael Franzese. He's easy to find if you're curious.
Another notorious gangster, who also became one of the most powerful and infamous in history is Sammy the Bull, who ALSO has a YouTube channel and tells many stories, including murders that he was involved with. He's also quite a storyteller and really brings you into the secret world he was a part of.
You guys mentioned that Henry was brainwashed. When you listen to Sammy, it's clear that he absolutely LOVED the lifestyle too. They all did. It was more or less a religion to them.
Another great reaction guys! Looking forward to your 'Godfather' reaction! Definitely checkout 'Godfather II' as well. Both are cinematic masterpieces and both are considered amongst the greatest films ever made.

Great stuff! Top shelf reaction as always. Honestly, you can't go wrong with Scorsese' films- they are all worth watching, even the lesser known ones! Hope you two will check out "Casino", and also maybe consider checking out "The Irishman", his most recent mafia movie, which also stars De Niro, Pesci, and even Al Pacino, who you two will remember from "Scarface".

Excellent movie! Leads me on to Ray Winstone’s Boston accent….
Being from where Ray is (and not from Boston) I tend to think that his accent in that is utterly appalling!
Can anyone from the States (on the Munchies comments) back up Ray Winstone’s terrible Boston accent in that movie?

Amazing reaction. One of the earlier scenes when they are naming everyone at the bar, there is someone named Michael Franzese (actually played by Michael Franzese.) He was actually a person in the mob and up there in ranking. He has a Youtube channel where he talks about that life and even talks about Henry Hill if you two are ever curious.

The way Scorsese hits all the musical notes in the final act is utterly impeccable.
Monkey Man (Stones), the piano outro to Clapton’s Layla.
He never needs a musical score; he just digs out what’s contemporary and appropriate to the movie 👍🏻

Home Alone is much scarier if you watch this movie first. Did you recognize the Wet Bandit? haha.
In the United States, we have a cash bail system. So, if you are arrested by the police and charged with a crime. You can go before a judge and he/she will set your bail. This is usually set by how likely you are to try to runaway. The only time they won't give you bail if the prosecution can prove you are a genuine threat to public safety. Once you're "out on bail", you can live life normally until you your trial and a jury made up of normal citizens will decide if you are guilty or not. If you're guilty, the judge decides your sentence. If you're innocent, you go home and the government cannot charge you again for the same crime. The problem with this system is that poor people will wait for trial in jail, while people with money go home to wait for trial.
In the 1970's, the Italian Mafia had a lot of power in the US, but from 1980's through the 2000's, the FBI really put a lot of them in jail. Of course, they still exist but not like they once did.

First Scorsese movie for the Munchies! I'm not sure if it's intentional, but with this, they have now seen 15 of the IMDb top 20. The remaining 5 are 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'Inception', '12 Angry Men', 'The Godfather' and 'The Godfather Part II'.
